Went from Mac to Windows and lost Avenir

I have a 71-page coffee table-style cookbook that went to print just before my Mac died. When I replaced it with a powerful Windows PC, I did not realize that some fonts would not work with the switch. Which of the Adobe sans serifs will cause the least problems in a complex layout if I switch to it?

If you're talking about what's available in Adobe Fonts, the Proxima Nova family is a good match. It falls between Avenir and Gotham in appearance. It's one of my favourites. You will have text reflow as it's a bit tighter letterspacing wise, but it might not be so bad.

Also: if you have the ability to package your document on a Mac (sorry yours is RIP), Avenir.ttc, will end up in the Documents Fonts folder, which InDesign on Win should read even if you don't/can't* install in the Win Fonts folder. (you could also just simply copy if from your Mac's hardrive Font folder).

*it used to be that Win could not handle/install Mac .ttc fonts, but that doesn't seem to be the case anymore, so you might try that.

Legally though, this cross-platform use might be against the EULA for Mac System-installed fonts.
