What is the maximum RAM InDesign can use?

I am using Windows 10 on an HP desktop computer with 16 Meg of RAM with the newest version of InDesign. I am wondering – is InDesign able to use all of the RAM available?

Thanks, Marcy

I assume that you are running a 64-bit version of Windows 10 which one would expect if your system has 16GB of RAM.

The latest versions of InDesign are 64-bit applications and as such, can use as much of the 64-bit address space as they need for the task at hand.

Note that Windows 10 is a virtual memory operating system. The actual mapping between the 64-bit address space and the RAM you have is actually handling by the operating system, not InDesign.

That having been said, all reasonably recent versions of InDesign do take advantage of the larger 64-bit address space (and thus as much RAM) as needed / appropriate to get the job done. Many crashes and “out of memory” messages from the days of the 32-bit only InDesign miraculously disappeared when the 64-bit version of InDesign was released!

Dov,

Yes, I am on a 64-bit machine - I forgot that part. Thanks for the help.
