Where is the Table of Contents Panel?

This might count as a feature request suggestion, but I'm posting it here. Why? The system for Table of Contents styles in InDesign is a major usability hurdle, even if you're experienced with InDesign. I would just love to be able to see and manipulate my Table of Contents styles in a Panel like my other styles.

 

I have been waiting years – decades – for a TOC Panel.

 

Sigh.

It's a dialog box: Layout > Table of Contents:

There is no practical advantage of making it a Table of Contents panel.

LATEST

TOCs are, with few exceptions, a one-and-done task.  I can't think of a need to have it permanently open like feature panels.

 

What do you see as the advantage to having it so?
