Only solution that worked for me was to downgrade to InDesign 2024 (v19).

I disagree - I updated to 14.3 today - still the same, if I use the select tool and drag on the screen, everything disappears.

Same. I'm so over Apple products lately. Also having issues on an iPad since last update, but different program. I don't understand how Apple is "elite" when they can't ever test things before launching.

This bug is quite annoying. I'm on a MBP M1, Sonoma 14.2 and the latest InDesign 2024 and selecting any textbox/shape on InDesign makes the screen turn white until I release it.

The GPU option didn't work but turning off the ruler did. Though sometimes I still need the ruler.

Hopefully Apple/Adobe fixes this issue on their next update.

Today, Monday, January 22  at 10 am Pacific, Apple released the update to macOS Sonoma 14.3.

According to beta testers, this release should solve the display problems in earlier Sonoma versions. The problems did not occur for everyone. I ran Sonoma 14.2 with no problems so I can't verify that this solves the display problems.

If you are running Sonoma, download the update and see whether your problems have been fixed.

I had the white screen issue, and also resolved it by toggling InDesign> Preferences > GPU performance. Thanks!

Looks like it's a temporary bandaid, though. It reappears later, but fixed with same GPU performance toggle (turn off, restart, turn on).

As of today, InDesign is still not supported on Sonoma. A new Sonoma update is coming out soon from Apple and that may be helpful, so do check back in.

Right now the permanent solution is to roll back to Ventura 13.5 or later.

Same here. Sonoma 14.0 (23A344)…official release, not Beta. InDesign 18.5. Any selection makes InDesign go white until selection is released.

For what it is worth, I upgraded to beta Sonoma; then Sonoma 14.1, and everything continues to work fine for me. The GPU trick and the Ruler trick seem to be frequently cited on this forum, tho.

Wait. Sonoma? Is that when it started happening? After you updated to Sonoma? That's still in beta and InDesign doesn't support it, yet. It's not due to be rolled out by Apple until sometime this fall, and then Adobe needs to announce their products will run on it.

As a general rule, avoid use beta versions of anything for real work (Apple's betas, Adobe's betas, whoever's). Install them on a computer that is not your main computer and play with them—that's the job of a beta tester—but don't rely on them before the roll out.

Thanks Barb, I updated to Sonoma yesterday and am having the white out issue during selection. Very frustrating but at least I know why it's happening now...

Try disabling InDesign > Preferences > GPU Performance > GPU Performance. Let us know if that takes care of it.

NO.. It was fixed by ENABLING GPU Performance! Not sure why InDesign didnt send any notifcation of this to users (as if they ever have).. Yes, directly after Sonoma, the white page on selecting text.

Hi Ben:

What version of InDesign are you using and what operating system?
