Why does Indesign cc appear twice on my Creative Cloud update list? Do I update both? Delete one, if so, which one?
Not sure if this is related to why Indesign program has crashed several times tonight (as I am working on object styles and paragraph styles) and then asks to go through a "recovery" when I open it again.
I had been avoiding an upgrade from cc 2017 to cc 2018. When I ran the upgrade, my problem was solved.

And now I am doing some minor work on my file with a photo and most of the images on my screen have wiped out - why would this be?

You might have two versions of InDesign installed on your machine.
To trouble-shoot disappearing images, have you looked to see if the Links panel is up-to-date? Have you turned off GPU acceleration in the preferences? Have you attempted to zoom in and out a step to force the screen to re-draw? Have you checked preferences to see whether or not you are set to High Quality Display under display preferences? Set it 2 places from Typical to High Quality.

First of all does either version of InDesign in the desktop app have a year number next to it? If so then that means that one of them is the current version CC (or as it's also referred to CC 2018) and the other is a previous version that you have installed. If this is not the case then try logging out of the desktop app (with no Adobe programs open) and then logging back in again. Hopefully, this will fix the desktop app. As to the other issue, if this is happening on only this document then it might be corrupt and hopefully you have a backup of an earlier version that you can use. You could also try exporting the file as an IDML and then reopening it. This can possibly clear out some forms of corruption. If this is happening to all of your files then it does sound like InDesign is malfunctioning so I would suggest uninstalling it through the desktop app (there is a pull-down menu to the right of the app name in the apps section of the desktop app—Click on the "V"). Then running the Creative Cloud Cleaner tool Use the Creative Cloud Cleaner Tool to solve installation problems . Before reinstalling make sure that all preference files have been deleted. Then reinstall using the desktop app once again.
