I have two different documents open in InDesign CC 2017 on iMac 2017 with OS Sierra.
Both documents are set in normal view.
One document has all the grid lines showing as should be in normal view.
The other document (also in Normal View) is stuck looking like it's in preview view.
I've zoomed in/out. Closed/open the document. Checked all settings.
The document was fine yesterday. Not today.
All I did was open it today.
Any thoughts why it's stuck in preview view while set in normal view?

Are you sure that you just don't have the guides turned off? You can toggle guides on and off with the keystroke command-; on a Mac and control-; on a PC. If you have your pasteboard set as grey then this could give the illusion of being in Preview mode.

I tried what you suggested. I wasn't exactly sure what shortcut commands you were indicating. Is this a minus sign after command and control?
command -
control -
I tried several options, nothing worked. I have gone through the View > Grids/Guides > , then several options of turning guid/guides on/off. It still doesn't bring the document into Normal mode as it states it is in.

Just Command semi-colon on Mac or Control semi-colon on PC. No hyphen.

You can also find it under View>Extras>Hide Frame Edges.

Sorry that didn't work. I do just want to correct what I said in reply #4. Command semi-colon is Hide Guides and it is under Grids & Guides. Hide Frame Edges under Extras will toggle the outline of frames on and off.

Are any other of your documents also stuck in Preview? Also try turning on your invisibles (option-command-i). If you can see them in your text then you are not really in preview. In preview you will not be able to see the invisibles.

Good to know but neither worked.

Hm, never heard someone facing such a quirk... What happens if you try to choose any other (apart Normal) Screen Mode? Bleed, Slug, Presentation?
Via KB shortcut (W for Preview, Shift W for Presentation); via menu View > Screen Mode; icons next to Menu (above Control panel); icons at the bottom of Toolbox?
Still nothing?
Can you switch Modes back and forth in the 'good' document?

I can switch the modes, but in normal mode you don't see the boxes outlined. It really looks as if it's in preview mode. If you click on a box then the box highlights but you don't see any of them otherwise.
When I turn on invisibles all that shows is the paragraph symbols.
It's the strangest thing. I don't know why it's stuck in preview. I read something that there was a bug in InDesign 2017 about being stuck in preview mode... is that still there?

Have you run the latest updates for InDesign CC 2017?

Hi,
I am nit aware of any known reproducible bug in which the application stucks on preview mode.
Can you check if View menu-> "overprint preview" is on?
