Why is "Create guides" grayed out under the Layout menu?

Hello, I'm not able to click "Create guides" under the Layout menu. It is only for this one brand new document that I opened. I've quit and reopened InDesign, and played around with the preferences, to no avail. Other documents do not have this problem. What could be causing this?

Thanks!

Huh, still a mystery then! I don't believe there was a locked layer either. I'll have to double check and trouble shoot again.

Just happened to me - I was in Trim View mode. Unchecked and all my guides appeared!

Thank you for the feedback! I figured it out - it was actually because "allow document pages to shuffle" wasn't checked.

That doesn't quite make sense. AFAIK, that settign should have no effect on whether guides can be created or not. I just experimented and confirmed that.

The only thing I can find that will gray out 'Create Guides' is if you have a locked layer selected for current operations.

Just possibly, you're on a locked Layer?

Hi @Delightful_Dragonfly0D4C ,

could be that all layers are locked.

Or could be that the active layer is locked.
