Question

Why is there no copy filename only option when you right click on an image in the link window?

Never figured it out, was it forgotten or did Adobe feel it wasn't needed?
It's necessary when links are missing and you need to find images.

Also, I wonder what the difference is between “copy full path” and “copy platform style path”?

Suddenly there's an idea, wouldn't it be beautiful if InDesign allowed to add custom menu functionality directly, rather than in the form of a script.

I've tried Googling how to set clipboard contents from JS - but can't find anything "direct" - so the workaround would be to create a small TextFrame, set its contents to the name of the selected image - from the link information - then select this text then use app.copy() - then destroy this TextFrame.

Let's leave this to Adobe officials.
It's kind of an omission, you don't try to take their job.

You're expecting waaaaay too much...

There are:

- unique readable properties - 2645 - total for all objects - 16 648.

- unique changeable properties - 1988 - total for all objects - 10 954.

in the InDesign 2025.

Do you really expect each of them to be available for a "direct access" and "copy to clipboard"?

But they're in my ID-Tasker tool - and for free 😉 readable for now but I've almost finished adding direct editing access.

Well, it's been published, although I don't like that super slow site

 copy-filename

Let's support this alignment to the bleeder as well.

Have you tried:

Links panel > right-click the link > Copy Info > Copy Full Path

That copies the filename. Admittedly with path, too.

I wish you could rename a graphic directly within the Links panel.

I wish you could right-click a graphic and convert it to another filetype, perhaps a BridgeTalk to Photoshop in some way.

Platform style means Windows versus macOS (probably largely related to \ or / characters denoting subfolders)

Another idea: it is easy at many places in the InDesign interface to jump to Adobe Bridge, where you can copy/rename filenames. Adobe Bridge is like macOS Finder and Windows File Explorer, except better. I wish Adobe Bridge would add on more clever GREP bulk file renaming tricks, like many third-party file renamers have.

I keep hearing you guys say that Adobe Bridge is a great thing, but it looks too big to me and I wouldn't even consider it over 100M.

Hi @dublove,

I’m sorry this feature isn’t available at the moment. Would you be open to submitting this as a feature request on Adobe InDesign UserVoice? Your input there really helps us prioritize what matters most to users, and you’ll also get updates if the status of the request changes. If you do post it, feel free to share the link here so others can upvote it too.

As for your other question: 'Copy full path' gives the entire file location, while 'copy platform style path' adjusts the formatting based on your OS like slashes on macOS or backslashes on Windows.

Feel free to reach out if you have more questions.
