Will only print some layers

I'm currently trying to print a version of my webcomic, but for some reason two of the pages refuse to cooperate.

I've tried all I know, but I am at my wits end.

Why does this happen??

My workflow if that can help with the issue:

1) Draw in Photoshop, make a .tif

2) add .tif to page template in Illustrator in a locked layer, add bubbles on a layer on top

3) Import .ai file to InDesign for booklet setup, add page numbers and a solid black background for bleed.

It seems to have to do with the .tif file, but I have remade it over and over again, but nothing helps, and the setting are the same as all the other pages.

Can it be the printer? I have a Brother DCP-9020COW.

No reason to use .tif format, stay native (.psd) Try creating your black background in Illustrator (could be funky overprint settings). Try making a PDF and printing that. I'm reading lots about people having printing issues with CC2018 of ID (though I haven't experienced myself).

Try to do idml, save this idml as new  indd. And than print from new indd.

Remember, never say you can't do something in InDesign, it's always just a question of finding the right workaround to get the job done. © David Blatner

Hi Jonathan,

interesting that TIFF is failing and PSD is not.

If you ever are using vector artwork and live editing text with PhotoShop I'd recommend PDF/X-4 ( plus no downsampling of pixels ) to save your artwork when using with InDesign. Then vector elements will stay vector and text text ( or at least vector shapes ) even if you output from InDesign.

Regards,
Uwe

Hi,

IDML is InDesign's internal exchange format, a container format like zip, basically populated with a folder structure and XML files.

InDesign can reconstruct a document from an IDML container file. Sometimes IDML is used as exchange format to open newer version documents with older version InDesign installations. Sometimes with the same version to clean out corruption in the document format or to get rid of chunk data. Sometimes IDML is necessary as input and output format for non-Adobe applications like Translation Memory Service softwares.

You can save as IDML or export as IDML. That's the same.

And with the Creative Cloud there is a service where you can open newer versions of InDesign in older versions of InDesign where behind the scene an IDML file is written by an Adobe Server and opened with your desktop version as document.

Important note:
IDML is not perfect. So check the result of the reconstruction of your document after you open an IDML file as InDesign document.

Regards,
Uwe
