WIndows 10, InDesign CC
Over and over I am finding InDesign to be unstable/unreliable. I have put my CC folder in Drive D (is that a problem) which is cavernous - I just moved it there as a supposed solution to my overly full Drive C but I continue to have the problem of saved files not saving. I know the file has been saved because of creating a pdf of some of the changed pages for a proofreader plus I LOOKED at where and what I was saving, doing "save as".
I have reset preferences as recommended.
Would it be better to go on ebay and find an older (non-CC) version?
Would this version of an INDD file work in an older InDesign version?

Is it InDesign version 13.0.1?
And which way is it "unstable"?
Does your equipment match the system requirements?

I can edit and save but later those 'saves' are gone, except in pdf - if I exported. I should not continue my project at this point (150+pages into it) until I can know that my time is not wasted.
Here are the systems items that I found and it looks like that part is okay:
Intel(R) Coreâ„¢ i7-3770 CPU @3.4GHz 3.40 GHz
64-bit operating system
Microsoft Windows 10
32 GB of installed RAM
.99 TB of available hard-disk space on Drive "D"
1920x1080 Resolution, 2 monitors
Available Graphics memory 18412MB
Adobe® Flash® Player 28

So you create an InDesign document, add text and images and you then Save and name it and subsequently you can't find that document. You also exported a copy of that document to PDF and you can find that – is that correct?

I can find the document just fine, but it lacks the most recent edits.

If you make some changes to your InDesign document, then Save and close the file, then open it again without creating a PDF, does it retain the changes?

Whether or not I create a PDF: if I save changes, close InDesign, and then reopen, the file I find my changes are a-okay. It is only after Adobe CC processes - or does whatever - with my files over a period of several hours (it seems to occur overnight) do my edits disappear.

The most recent edits that remain in the file - and are not taken away from me - are the edits of Feb. 10, 2018.

That's strange!
Maybe try resetting your InDesign preferences to see if that helps:
Close InDesign. Then hold down Ctrl + Alt + Shift (Windows) or Cmd + Ctrl + Opt + Shift (Mac), and relaunch InDesign. Respond in the affirmative to the dialog asking if you really want to replace the preferences.

I have done preference reset many times Ctrl + Alt + Shift (Windows) - but I am NOT asked about replacing preferences. Instead, I am asked, "do you want this app to make changes to your device?" I answer, "Yes."
Adobe seems to be unrolling my most recent version of the document. How can this be my error?
You can perhaps see why I am so desperate with my 150+ page document that I need to work on and finish.
Q - Should I save the file somewhere that Adobe cannot find it?
Q - I may have missed some error messages. Is there a place where I can check and see the status of "syncs"?

I just noticed something odd. The previous worker laboring on this file created an Alternate Layout.
Under the pages panel, I can see that one is called: Letter V and the other is called: ...W Alternate Layout.
I did a search for an unusual phrase in a 2-page spread that I added just today (again).
Stangely, the new 2-page spread that I added today is in Letter V but NOT in W Alternate Layout. I wonder why.
Could this be related to my problem?

Is your document to be printed, if so, has it been set up with Print as the intent.

1 - Yes, it will be printed. The printer wants the InDesign file converted to PDF. I didn't know about "setting up Print as the intent". Hopefully, the prior person did that. How do I check on that?
2 - I am puzzling over which layout is which and I cannot find where the parameters are listed. I want the one for 8.5"x11" as that is the one I will want. I am afraid that I don't know which one I have been working from.

I have sometimes mistakenly added edits to the Alternate Format, rather than to the original file.
I have now learned that the original file is a parent of the Alternative Format. A change in the Alternative Format does NOT change the original file, although the opposite IS true.
Not sure what to do about it, but I CAN see some of my missing edits.

Oh, I see now to make corrections in PreFlight.

How do I tell InDesign that printing is my intent?

Thank you. That is how I ordinarily save any InDesign file as pdf. Either that or click File>Print> and then select "Adobe PDF" as my printer.
The reason I asked the question is that I thought the gentleman was referring to options that need to be selected to optimize the pdf, such as items on this screen:

How do I tell InDesign that printing is my intent?
The document has an Intent setting found in Document Setup and New Document.
All the Intent does is set up some of the document's initial preferences. For Web the document swatches are RGB, the rulers are pixels, and the Transparency Blend space is RGB. It's hard to see how the document Intent would cause saving issues?

Let's go back to this statement..."I just moved it there as a supposed solution to my overly full Drive C". We had a similar issue with someone the forum last week, and tried everything we could think of. He solved the issue himself by making more space available on the drive where InDesign was installed.
