I am modifying one page of a complicated form-fill in PDF. Now I am about to lose a bunch of work as the file will not save, giving the following error message: The font could not be embedded because the font stored on the page and the system font are encoded differently and the encoding could not be resolved.

I moved text fields and form fields together a few days ago but I do not remember how I did it! I found instructions somewhere in the Adobe Community. It is EASY when you know how to do it! Very frustrating!

I created a form for users to fill in using Adobe Acrobat Professional. I created it from a blank page. By default the page was portrait and I saw no option to make a landscape form. So... to make it landscape, I used "Organize" and roatated it to landscape. I created a simple form a few form fields, but the text is sideways! Help

Thank you for your time and effort in showing me the steps. The problem was that I chose "change page size" to change page size from legal to letter. (It seemed logical!) But I see now that I need to leave that field alone and select "Page Boxes" and select CropBox. Whew! Also, a good point is that in Adobe crop, you are selecting what to retain, not what to take away.

I finally worked it out. I hope this is helpful to someone else: ALL TOOLS EDIT A PDF CROP PAGE Under Modify Page - Create a rectangle over the current whole page (to go from legal to letter) Double-click inside the rectangle. A screen of choices appear. Under page boxes select: Show all boxes>, Inches>, and Cropbox>. Top, Left, and right should each be 0 Bottom should be 3, to take off the bottom 3 inches. Select desired page range. Finalize with OK. Click the SAVE icon in the upper right of the screen.

I published the steps with screenshots as per your request. In my initial description of the steps, I made an error. Here is the corrected list of steps that I think should work (as per the new ADOBE tutorial on their website!) but do not work for me on more than one document. ALL TOOLS EDIT A PDF CROP PAGE Under Modify Page - I create a rectangle over part of the page I want to retain (to convert it from legal to letter) - Then I double-click inside the rectangle.     I went through the steps to crop a page in Adobe Acrobat Pro (Win10 with all but the very most recent Adobe update), but the crop does not take effect. I did the following: ALL TOOLS - EDIT A PDF - CROP PAGE under Modify Page - I created a rectangle over the lowest 3" of the page (to convert it from legal to letter) - Double-clicked inside the rectangle - Change Page Size to the fixed size of letter - Checked Page Range All (and also tried just cropping one only) - finalized with OK. This was as per the tutorial I reviewed. Nothing happens when I do this. I realize that the literal file size of kb/mg should not change. But my idea is to have the user experience this as a letter-sized document since the lowest three inches of each page are blank.

I need to crop a pdf but the "crop pages" function does not work any more. I cannot start afresh due to the complicated fields in the form. I would like to return to Adobe Pro X instead of the "up to date" Adobe Pro DC. Or find another product either inside or outside Adobe as I NEED TO GET MY WORK DONE. I see from other messages that we can no longer use "crop pages" and with no one getting help from well-meaning staff, I fear it is hopeless. Here is my process in Adobe Pro DC which should be as easy as pie: All Tools - Organize - Right click on a page - Crop pages - Change page size - Select letter - Change all.

Yes, they should be able to open the file in Adobe Reader. But the Adobe Portfolio item I created will not open for my users with a simple Acrobat Reader. Adobe is sending a message trying to require them to create an official Adobe account. What is going on? What are the requirements for a user to be able to open an Adobe Portfolio item? If they must create an account, then Adobe Portfolio is useless to me.

Thanks so much for your reply. I have not used smart sync (as far as I know!) and just went in and looked at a tutorial. On my Dropbox folder in question, the "smart sync" option does not appear. I see that in the tutorial it is below "star" but on my pc, I do not see it anywhere. But perhaps DropBox is somehow creating my problem. I am now thinking to "package" the entire thing (photos, indd) as though I were sending it off to someone else and then working on it from my drive D. Or does InDesign work okay on something other than Drive C?

InDesign cc with Windows 10 on DropBox on a quite full hard drive.
Okay, I worked all last night until 1:30 am or so and saved my document when I went to bed but left the file open. I got up at 7 am and all seemed fine and I worked for five hours steadily, saving every few minutes using the menu across the top of the screen (File>Save).
However, I had a little test document also up and closed that without saving, answering no that I didn't want to save - except I closed my big document by mistake instead!!
I thought I should be okay having saved so many times, but instead, I am sunk. The file looks to be the same as it was at 1:30 am and so I have lost all that work. (1:30 is the Dropbox date/time also of the "current" version of the file.)
Any idea why all those twenty-some times doing File>Save did not save my work??

In InDesign CC 2017, I selected a rectangular color block (a blue) and used the following to check for the type of color being used in an inherited file: Window>Color>Color>Set I saw that it was RGB and switched it to CMYK. Questions: 1 - Is that rectangular color block considered a "color build"? 2 - Did that switch the entire document to CMYK or just that rectangular color block?

I would still like to know how to check within InDesign to see if fonts are embedded or not. My commercial printer specified that fonts should be embedded. Somewhere I thought I read that this is something that I need not worry about since I am using InDesign, but would like this notion confirmed or corrected.

I am trying to use Adobe tutorial videos but sometimes they jump into something and I do not know how they got there. Example: I see the properties panel in the last two videos I reviewed but I don't seem to have that. The Properties panel is supposed to be available by default in the Essentials workspace (Windows>Workspace>Essentials) and I have that checked but do not see the panel anywhere! It is also apparently available in Window > Properties but I do not see it on my pc. I thought maybe its visibility (the eye) got unchecked and so went to Edit>Menus but do not see it even as an item to check/uncheck.

The images you placed above are from post PDF, not InDesign, correct? You said to first look at InDesign. I had previously looked at the (InDesign) Windows>Output>SeparationPreview but did not understand it. I hope these questions are not too ignorant sounding: I am now looking at InDesign separations again with a page of text-only that I set as "Black" (not "Registration) and the page has only one layer, but when I click on the frame it shows all zeros, even the black. Another text-only page shows 100% CMYK and 100% Black. But results change on some. For instance, one frame may show as all zeros and then I go to something else and come back to it and the second time it has 47% CMYK and 47% Black... or some other number. When I click on one random image that is Grayscale Mode, 8 bits channel in Photoshop, it shows me 80% Black and 80% CMYK. I click on another that I have verified as being in Grayscale Mode, it shows me 71% Black and 71% CMYK. Another grayscale image shows all zeros. Other grayscale images show other percentages under 100% for Black and CMYK. What does this all mean in regards to printing Black K only?

Before sending a pdf to a professional printer (exported from InDesign) I would like to learn how to assess which pdf pages will be read as color and which as grayscale, for budgetary purposes. The professional printer will otherwise charge for letting me know this as they charge for this as a special service. I know which pages contain color images versus grayscale images but have inherited this file and pages of text may have color also, from a 'build'.

For InDesign cc for pc: I have a paragraph style for bibliography, but do not know how to modify it so that bibliography items that are multiple lines indent under the first line (hanging indent?). Here I have just clicked "Tab" to get that effect but it is a very messy way to go about it.

I receive this error message: "the preset specifies that some fonts are not embedded. This application always embeds fonts." How can I find out how to fix this problem? Will it adversely affect my document? Will I have to do reformatting?

Oh I finally saw "show import options" at the bottom of the file screen, right above where I type in the file name. This will only be an option for me if I can turn OFF the table while retaining the ITALICS. This is because the document I am importing has table formatting that is bewildering me. The first problem follows. There seems to be no way to get that WORD table selected so that it can be narrowed to fit the page.

1. As a quick fix I was able to get the outdent to work with: Ctrl + \ on my pc in conjunction with using the tab key and a soft return: Shift-Enter. Hurray! 2. Regarding the article you kindly provided: I had already tried: File > Place on my pc but I cannot seem to figure out how to access the "Show import options" because when I do File > Place the cursor loads and there seems to be no way to get to the InDesign import options. 3. About the suggestion from Jane-e: I do not see the option within InDesign for outdent but I went on my pc to Window > Type/Table > Paragraph > Left Indent, but I do not know what to do from there. The field does not accept negative numbers. I am such a novice that I just don't get it.

Is there a style or something that would allow me to make word-wrap lines line up? I imported 40 pages of endnotes from a WORD table and had to convert it to text due to all the mess. And so I lost all the italics in book titles. sigh... Now I am hoping there is an easy way to avoid manually dealing with the following: Here is what it looks like now and I want the word wrapped text to line up beneath the text above it.:
