Clear overrides helped on some 0 pt boxes. But the other problem: When I just look at the 1 pt black boxes, some look more grayish on-screen to me and others black. But if I widen them to 7 pts or so, they look totally black. So I don't know if my eyes are playing tricks on me or what! I have decided to just leave all as-is, that I don't mind some black and some gray.

Okay, I can right-click a text frame and change the inset spacing of the text frame. I am changing the left and right inset spacing to zero. Only I need to do it hundreds of times. Is there a semi-automated way to do this?

I created a simple object style to have a 50% gray stroke or line around objects and to create that line at the size of 1 point. I gave it a shortcut of Shift 8. Problems: 1 - When I apply the style to an object that has a zero point stroke, it does not work. I have to create a 1 point stroke as a separate action even though I put 1 point stroke in the style. 2 - Once I apply the stroke to several objects on a page, they do not look all the same. Some are darker and even look thicker than others. Below are my settings and then a example of problem #2:

Okay, I give up: I have APPLIED the master page edits. How do I EXIT the master page and get back to work on my document? I used to know how to do this, but have forgotten. I have looked online in a half dozen places and looked in the InDesign CC Classroom in a Book. Everyplace and everyone seems to assumes that you don't know how to get into it but that you DO know how to get out of it.

Not sure what you mean by, "collect your ID doc and all linked files on your local HD (for troubleshooting, at least), and export from here" I think that I already do all that: my INDD program file and all Linked photo files are on Drive C already as Dropbox prefers that files reside on C. I always put my export files there also. And just wondering, what is "Foreground Export" all about?

I took the pc offline - off the internet - and still was not able to stop the background work. so I finally rebooted the computer. So, are you saying that before I do a large export, such as 200 pages, that I should turn Dropbox off?

Windows 10 InDesign 13.1x64 C:\Users\s\Dropbox\History\ After 12 hours it is only 62% done according to Windows/Background Tasks. The indd file is on my hard drive, my local C drive which I have designated as a Dropbox drive. The destination is the same drive. I am trying to cancel & it is taking forever. Which system specs do you want?

I have an Indesign file that is over 200 pages. Using the current cc version I do 1-2 chapter exports to pdf all the time, as the document progresses. Last night, however, I tried to export the entire document to pdf and I put the command in place at bedtime, hoping the pdf file would be waiting for me in the morning. No such luck. It is still "working away" or appears to be with the usual pending movement on the top middle of the screen. I assume this must be just overloaded and that I should close down InDesign and export small segments at a time? What is the largest number of pages that I should attempt at one time?

Using preflight I find that I have two overset text items. I clicked on each item and can see the red plus sign showing that more text is within. Using Story Editor I see that each item is several thousand characters in length. I click on the red plus sign and create several text frames and I make sure they are aligned top in terms of vertical justification. However... each frame I create is empty - what is wrong?

I see that I have little green circles with a white check mark inside all but one file on this computer. I think that means all but that one file have synced, right? I have left the file alone for 2 days and still, it does not finish syncing. Just now I stopped and then restarted the syncing to see if that would help. It is my most recent version of the Indesign project. I don't want to package the file until it has finished syncing.

Oh wow! I had no idea. Can I just take the files out of the Creative Cloud folder? (copy from cc to my hard drive and then delete the cc copy?) What impact would that have if I do that and the files are not yet synced 100%?

Yes, I believe that I have Creative Cloud on two computers, in two different cities. Same login. I went into Creative Cloud this morning and saw that it said I am only 34% synced. fyi: I have deleted recently a number of files that I no longer want (on either computer). I thought that I was required to keep all my Adobe files in the Creative Cloud folder. Is that not true?

InDesign is not removing files, but rather reverting back to the previous text and previous photos placed in my one big file. I am wondering if I should divide the big file somehow into maybe 4 smaller files. When I said sync, I was not thinking about dropbox but about the creative cloud sync. I am wondering if the Creative Cloud is the problem and I yearn for an older version of indesign as I have the sneaking suspicion it might be better. Or maybe this is happening somehow because I have my creative cloud folder on my D drive instead of my C drive?? Here is another strange thing that happened: I went through looking at all the various versions of my indd files. I looked at the file ABC.ind and saw a picture of X, something that had dropped off the other versions. Two hours later I went in again and the X picture was gone out of that very file.

I have not deleted any files. I use the most current version of InDesign on Windows 10. I back up in addition to saving frequently and look at see what I did - yes I do. I am working on a 250-page document. When I finish a work session on a chapter I save and then export to pdf. That is how I see and verify that - yes I did replace certain text and certain pictures. I can see them in the pdf that I have exported. There were there - yes - previously there in the Indesign file, but not now. Every few days I create a new version with a new name for INDD file. I also save to dropbox. I cannot see how to view a previous version of a file in dropbox. But even if I could, why is this happening?

Though I have been saving right along (and I know I am using the correct file) many edits have not been incorporated and, though they were in place before, they are now gone... hours and hours and hours of work! I believe the problem is that I did something (when working in another program/installing a new laptop on the network) that made my computer fill up and I need to figure out how to delete what may be duplicates of many files on my hard drive. I have deleted some big files now and will do more! My question is this: Now that there is some space cleared out, will the edits magically come back after the computer has had some time to sync my Indesign file? Or do I just need to get back to work?

WIndows 10, InDesign CC 2018 version 13.1 x64 Drive D used space 842 GB Free Space .00TB Capacity 1.81 I have tried using dropbox and one drive to do backups, but how do you manage it? If I am on dropbox and I do 'save as' then the file saves onto dropbox. I might come back and mistakenly work on the dropbox version, then the hard drive version and does not match up!

Until recently I had 'character' items and 'paragraph' items and perhaps a bit more across the top of my workspace (below the File/Edit/Layout/etc. row), easy for me to use. Now it is not there - I must have 'cleared' it by mistake. How do I get those tools back? I am not sure, but I think I got them there in the first place by selecting something called, "complex ??????" I thought it was through Edit/Preferences/ but now I don't know as I cannot see anything that looks familiar. And when I click Type/Character or Type/paragraph I cannot seem to see all the options I had in those categories previously!

Text columns are not aligning, starting on a particular page and the columns are not balanced. Here is what I have: Balance Columns is checked for both in text frame options. Align top is checked. My First Baseline offset says Ascent and 0. I have tried different settings in Baseline Grid, but not sure what to do and nothing has helped so far.

Well, I thank you very much. I deleted a bunch of pages that I didn't need and now it happens much less frequently. I also seem to have fewer crashes when I work more slowly and give the software time to 'rest'. Ha! Could that be real!? I work at home and we have Xfinity. I am saving to my drive D. I have my Adobe software on Drive D rather than C because C is too full.
