Workspace settings

I am upgrading to a new MacBook and want to copy my settings for InDesign, Illustrator and Photoshop. Previously I have easily done this by locating in the appropriate Library folder, but are unable to locate. I have looked through nearly every folder in Library so am asking if there is any other way this can be done, or would they be hidden for some reason?

Thanks

You want to copy your InDesign workspaces? Once you confirm, I can give you the paths for Ai and Ps as well.

In Finder:

Opt + Go > Library > Preferences > Adobe InDesign > [version #] > [your language] > Workspaces

You should be able to just copy your preference files for the three programs.

To find the preference files:

With InDesign closed Launch a Finder Window in column view and click on your home folder. With the Option Key pressed choose Library from the Finder Go Menu. Within the Library folder find the folder called Preferences and within it find the "Adobe Illustrator (version number) Settings", "Adobe InDesign", "Adobe Photoshop CC 20XX Paths" and "Adobe Photoshop CC 2017 Settings". On your new Mac you should be able to just put these folders into the same location. One word of warning though if you've upgraded to CC 2017 on your new machine and you were running an older version on the old one then although these will work you might get sluggish performance. In that case you would probably be better off starting over from scratch. If these do work out though I suggest keeping a copy handy for any time that you might need to reset your preferences in the future.

Thanks but that is exactly where I've been looking and there is no Adobe folder in the Preferences folder, hence why I am thinking it may be hidden. Either way I think I will just start from scratch!

Have you opened and closed InDesign yet?

Are you saying that there are no folders with the names I listed sitting loose in your old Macs preference folder (following the route I mentioned)? They would not be inside a folder called Adobe. They would just be there on their own.

I have closed and re-opened InDesign and no, no folders - have added screenshot. This is a work MacBook and I have had suspicions that it might not of been set up correctly as there have been other issues at times. But thanks for the answers, I am happy to just re-set up and think it might be safer that way!

I think what you said about it being a work machine might be the answer to this mystery. In my experience IT departments are notorious for keeping things out of the hands of the worker drones. That is the only explanation I can think of because it looks like you have indeed followed the path on which both Barb and I tried to lead you.

Yes Untitled is local drive. It was replaced earlier this year as corrupted. But in saying that I never could find the preferences before then either. Thank you both for you time

That's my conclusion as well. I'd follow up with them.

Is "Untitled" your local hard drive? Was it installed on a removable drive? Remote drive?

And where is Libraries? You:

  • opened Finder
  • Opened the Go menu
  • Added Opt to see Libraries (which is hidden) appear
  • And then clicked to navigate to it?
