XE code Index problem

Hi,

Is anyone facing XE code Index problem? We have a facing major two problems. If anyone know how to solve this problem.

1. After XE code Index document flow into the InDesign. The page ranges not get after Generate the index. In word they mentioned { XE "Bouveresse J." \r "bouveresse" }

This is paragraph "From Paradox to Wonder (2014), Rom Harré and Michael A. Tissaw’s Wittgenstein and Psychology: A practical Guide (2017), and Jacques Bouveresse’s study Wittgenstein Reads Freud (1995). Freud in term of stressing their potential to cast a questioning light on the French psychoanalytic school of Jacques Lacan (cf. Bouveresse 1995, 41). Bouveresse means when he writes of “the philosophical confusion par excellence” in the context of his discussion of Freud’s conflation of reasons and causes. In contrast to Bouveresse’s{ XE "Bouveresse J." \r "bouveresse" } work, we are going to describe critically several “examples” of what philosophy and psychoanalytic treatment, elaborated along Freudian-cum-Wittgensteinian lines."

In this case in InDesign folio only comes when this XE code available "XE "{ Bouveresse J." \r "bouveresse" }". But red highlighted terms folio not coming in InDesign.

2. We have to deliver the word proof to client. We have receive raw XE code MS. We fixed layout and after complete the first proof we convert .rtf files. In InDesign after convert .rtf files we open in word document the following contidion are deleted in converted file.

Conditions:

1. Third and fourth level deleted in XE code index

2. \r and \t XE code texts are deleted.

Only Main and Sub level index entries are coming. Other XE code texts are deleted.

You can ignore last 3x replies.

But it should be doable = custom scriptable 😉 or rather macro + script.

What platform, OS and InDesign versions?

Not sure I understand? Are IMPORTING text into InDesign - or EXPORTING out of InDesign?

Windows 11 and InDesign 19.5 2024 version. Both import and export.

During the first proof stage, authors sometimes include XE code for index entries directly in their manuscript (MS). We import these XE codes into InDesign and proceed with typesetting. Once typesetting is completed, we generate and send the first proof, which includes both a Word proof and a PDF proof. The Word proof is sent to the author, while the PDF proof is shared with the PE (Project Editor).

However, during the conversion of the InDesign file to RTF format, especially when third- and fourth-level entries, italic terms and XE codes with \r and \t are present in the original manuscript, some index terms are getting deleted (I have attached original document and after typeset document). This issue came to light when it was brought up during the revision stage. Upon investigation, we identified this as an InDesign bug.

When an index is generated in Word, page ranges are included at the end of the document, typically at \r occurrences. In contrast, InDesign fetches and renders folio numbers only where the XE code is explicitly tagged. As a result, many folio ranges are missing in the final index.

Quick question - why do you use InDesign - if, in the end, you need to produce WORD document?

And what do you mean by "authors sometimes include XE code"? Are they adding them somehow manually - instead of using built-in indexing mechanism?

I'll take a look at your files later today.

It won't be a big deal to create a custom exporter.
