Yiddish Klal Keyboard and InDesignCC2018

Hi

I'm doing a project in Yiddish. I'm using InDesignCC2018, ME edition and everything seemed to be going well. I was able to import stories, make layouts, etc.

But today I discovered -- it won't let me type in correctly. That is, if I install and select a Yiddish keyboard (i'm using Yiddish Klal), the diacritical marks won't appear in InDesignCC 2018.

The designer from whom I'd inherited the project was using InDesign CS6. So, I went back to CS6 and, voilà, the keyboard worked again. So it seems like the problem is some incompatibility between InDesignCC2018 and this keyboard. I also had a copye of InCopy CC2017 on my drive, so I tried that -- doesn't work there either.

My OS is Sierra, so I'm guessing I might eventually run into problems running CC6, right? Anyone have a clue for me?

thanks

kurt

    Hi

No, it never worked with CC2018, it only worked with CS6.

but I did find another version of the Yiddish Klal keyboard called "Yiddish Klal Ligature" that does work with CC2018. Basically, the regular version of the software creates certain characters with diacriticals by combining two characters. The "Yiddish Klal Ligature" version instead calls up those characters with the diacriticals as single characters, using their Unicode numbers. (The reason what one might want to use the first is that there aren't too many Yiddish fonts that have these characters available via Unicode.)

As it happens, the fonts where I work uses fonts compatible with Yiddish Klal Ligature. (As I've already re-set preference and uninstalled and re-installed InDesign, I don't think that would help me getting the regular Yiddihs klal software to work.

    thanks

    Hi Kurt,

As you said it was working fine with CC2018 as well some time back. Could you please check if there is any update installed after that which resulted in conflict?

Also, you may try resetting preferences for InDesign: Set preferences in Adobe InDesign

If it still does not work, please try uninstalling InDesign using the cleaner tool(Use the Creative Cloud Cleaner Tool to solve installation problems ) and reinstall ME Version of InDesign(Find and install Hebrew or Arabic editions of InDesign CC or Illustrator CC )

    Regards,

    Srishti
