Edit PSD that's a layer in InDesign?

Hi there,

I'm working on an InDesign project and I notice I have a layer in the InDesign document that is actually a PSD (PhotoShop file). The PSD is simply an address footer that displays the different addresses of my company.

One of the addresses needs to be updated and I thought that I should be able to access the text by clicking on it to simply edit it as you would in an e-mail or in MS Word, or in PhotoShop. But when I click on the text, it seems like a flattened image. So, I thought maybe I can open this PSD layer in PhotoShop to see if it has text I can edit, but I'm not sure how I can open this PSD layer in PhotoShop. May you please let me know if you have any advise/ideas?

Thank you kindly.

    Thank you, that worked beautifully.

    So to summarize:

-There's a PSD layer in my InDesign document. The PSD layer looks like just a bunch of text, and I want to update one portion of this text.

-To see if the PSD actually is a bunch of text that I should be able to edit (instead of an image of text that I wouldn't be able to text edit), with InDesign I had to select this PSD layer by navigating to the Layers panel, selecting the PSD layer, then clicking on the small square to the right side of the layer in the Layers panel. Clicking this small square turns it blue and the layer itself becomes selected in the InDesign document.

-From there, I'm able to do what BobLevine advised and select Edit Original (right-click and choose Edit Original)

-This opened the PSD layer in PhotoShop and I saw that the PSD was, in fact, a bunch of text (as opposed to an image of text), which I was able to text edit, Save and then see updated back in the InDesign document.

Thank you very much for your help.

Here’s one more piece of advice. When placing a Photoshop file that has text in it, it’s best to save it as a PDF from Photoshop. This will keep the text as vector instead of rasterizing it.

Best to recreate the text in InDesign.
