Flip book - not sure if I'm asking the impossible

or if I just need to try and learn another way of doing this.

I am a teacher. I often make books for my students as in my experience if you explain something in a little book with things that they like or are visual appealing to them , they often are more curious to learn.

I have my old CS6 and learned how to make flip books with InDesign which allows me to create a swift file. That is great and it works in most computers at school. However if I want the kids to take the book home to show parents or to read, I am faced with the fact that many people have mac computers, or only have ipad or iphone or android phone which does not work with flash files - from what I understand.

Keeping in mind that I am not a professional, just try to learn things that help me with my students so I might be wrong in my assumptions, I am trying to find a way that I can have the kids take the book home and be able to see it no matter in which device.

I realize that there are third party ways to creat flip books that can be see in any kind of device, however those are super expensive, have zillions of features I don't need or even want, and are often cloud based which I don't want either. I want something that stays in my in class and the child can take home to see. Often I incorporate their pictures in the books and I definitely don't want them in any cloud no matter how safe it seems to be- and I don't care if parents are very conscious of their children's privacy but then post their photos and often info everywhere online that's their choice, not mine 🙂 - 

Other than a bit of html I learned long ago also to make a web page for parents, I have no idea of what kind of coding would be needed to make the flipbook accessible for them or if I could even learn it - I"m getting old 🙂 - But here's what I wanted to accomplish:

- Create a flipbook. I don't even need text because the text would be in the pictures already. Maybe a picture dictionary, or some grammar rules... stuff like that. So I will need to only be able to add images.

- Said flip book would need to have the child change the page at their own pace, as some ready faster than others and hopfully curl page, because they like it more like that 🙂

- The ability to save it in any format depending on what their device can see and function with. One simple way to go from my class to their home probably in a flash drive or something so it doesn't go anywhere else online.

- Looking like a book, and not looking to bad if possible 🙂

What I don't need/want

- stored on the cloud

- features like adding videos, connecting with fbs and instagrams or any silly stuff like that, automatically indexed somewhere online or even showing anywhere online.

- And of course hopefully being able to do that without having to pay a monthly fee for anything - at my age, any monthly fees that are not my utility bills are not my friends 🙂

Is this possible at all? Is there any way of achieving this? If I need to learn somenthing to be able to do this, what is it? Can I do it in InDesign and then have a way that can accomplish what I need?

Sorry if this is no the place to ask this question I just don't know how to get this information / or maybe I have no idea how to ask the question so google can answer properly 🙂

Any help/information will be appreciated.

P.S. This books are not to sell or make any kind of business to reach zillions of people - main reason why I don't want it online. They're just for my students and their parents. Printing them either wastes a lot of paper on my bugget paper so I keep only a few copies in the class, I'd rather not spend more paper for them to take them home - and more often than not never bring it back-. To do this looked like a better option, but it's starting to look very complicated.
