How to view .pm6 files in Indesign?

New Here ,
Jul 27, 2019 Jul 27, 2019

I have a lot of .pm6 files that I need to view the content of. I installed the free trial of Adobe Indesign to merely view them but no joy whatsoever!!!!

Can anyone help? No online converters seem to do the job. Theres a wealth of knowledge in the files and I am desperate to view them.

Thanks in advance

No currently supported version of InDesign contains support for PageMaker files. The last version of InDesign that had such support was the CS6 version of InDesign which is no longer supported by Adobe.

See if this helps: Can't Open Pagemaker files in InDesign CC solution  it seems you need access to InDesign CS6, or earlier, first.

Maybe someone on this forum might do the conversions for you (for a fee).

No currently supported version of InDesign contains support for PageMaker files. The last version of InDesign that had such support was the CS6 version of InDesign which is no longer supported by Adobe.

For the record, Adobe has been advising its customers to convert PageMaker files to InDesign format for many years now. Such conversion was not all that simple. One needed to open the PageMaker files in CS6 or earlier versions of InDesign and often do significant manual editing of the resultant InDesign document (many times requiring relinking of placed graphics and adjusts to formatting – InDesign's layout model was not a simple superset of PageMaker's layout model). Some customers headed that advice. Regrettably, others haven't.

Your best bet is to find some InDesign user who has maintained an older system with the CS6 version of InDesign (often specifically to deal with this problem) and see whether they might be willing to do such a conversion for you as a service.

Alternatively, if you kept your old PageMaker disks and serial number, get hold of a very old computer running Windows 98, perhaps from someone's attic, and use your software.

You might want to pop over to the Pagemaker forum. There are still a few users there that have some old installations that might be able to help you out.
