Question

Illegal copy?

In June, 2013 I bought a copy of InDesign CS6 on Amazon. I bought it in good faith, and paid 59,000 yen for it. Expensive enough to convince me that it was the real McCoy. I used it regularly until a few months ago when I started to receive warnings about my copy being illegal shortly after I opened the program each time. I've checked the receipt and tried to contact the seller, but there's now no trace of them. In fact, I no longer need to use InDesign and will be using Apple Pages from now on, but I do have a lot of old files I would like to have access to. Does anyone (preferably an Adobe employee) have any advice about what I should do? I can provide the serial number if necessary.

Hi Roger,

Here is the FAQ page from Adobe. I’m sorry that you were scammed. Have you contacted Amazon? After five years I don’t know what they can do, but it’s still worth reporting.

Thanks for the advice. A good idea to report it to Amazon, although the seller seems to have disappeared. Big surprise. As I mentioned in my reply to Derek Cross, I discovered Adobe offer a hefty discount on the Creative Cloud subscription to people who have been scammed, and I have taken out a monthly subscription.

It‘s really nice to hear that Adobe is doing that. Thanks for sharing. Maybe Amazon will step up to the plate?

Hi rogerb9093386 ,

did you ever register your copy of InDesign CS6 to your Adobe ID account?

Regards,
Uwe

Uwe, No, I didn't. I should have done. Lesson learned!

Which version of  Mac OS are you running InDesign CS6 on?

You could download the trial version of InDesign which would give you seven days to access your old InDesign documents.

You could then create PDFs from which you could extract the text or use a plug-in such as Text Exporter to extract the text as RTF documents: https://www.rorohiko.com/wordpress/indesign-downloads/textexporter-4/

I've just upgraded to Mohave 10.14,

Thanks for the suggestions.

As for duplicating the posts I thought I'd lost my first comment - when I realized it was up I tried to delete it, but couldn't. And yes, I realize it's a user-to-user forum, and thought that maybe another user might have had the same problem (and that Adobe might notice the post). Unreasonable?

InDesign CS6 is not supported running under Mojave, that’s why you have the issues.
