Question

Image dimentions Lowered When CC Library Assets From Photoshop are Placed.

Hello Adobe Support Community,

I am running into some resolution issues when I place CC Library assets from Photoshop into an InDesign document.

As you can see in the screenshot below, the dimentions listed in the links pannel for the placed asset are far lower then the dimentions listed in the CC Libraries pannel.

Zoomed:

I have tried setting the display mode to "High Quality Display," but that doesnt seem to make a difference.

I have also tried turning on "Overprint Preview" and that doesnt fix it either.

When tried printing the document, the resolution of the placed image is still pixelated.

Is there any reason why Photoshop CC Library assets would have their resolution lowered when they are placed into InDesign documents?

All the best,

-Evan

Hi Evan,

I looked at your screenshots.

Please try placing the same asset in the CC library one more time as @Laubender suggested.

You can also try the following steps to check image quality.

  • Look at the same asset on the website to verify the quality of the image. - https://assets.adobe.com/libraries
  • Double click on the asset and check the quality in photoshop.

Thanks,

Supriya

I am having the EXACT same issue as Evan, and none of these solutions are viable. When placing a high-resolution PSD library graphic into my Indesign document, Indesign places it as a low-resolution, pixelated as hell, PNG graphic. Not a preview, but literally changing the PSD to PNG and making live-image edits impossible. Seems like I will have to continue linking locally for my quality graphics. Super lame, InDesign library function needs to change.

Have you tried choosing View On Website from the Library panel’s flyout menu? Is the graphic format listed as PNG and not PSD? And if you double click the graphic are the low res pixel dimensions listed?

Ok. I see now from your screenshot that the file type that is placed in the CC Library is PhotoShop.

If that asset is placed on your InDesign page it should be PhotoShop as well. Instead there is a PNG file on the page. Try again to place the asset. Something went wrong.

If that does not help locate the original or open the asset in PhotoShop, save the file to a drive you have access to and place it with InDesign's place command.

Hi Evan,

what's your version of InDesign?

Did you add a PNG file to your CC Library or did you add a TIFF image?

If a TIFF image you hit a bug with InDesign / CC Libraries with InDesign CC 2019 and below:

TIFF images are placed as PNG images in InDesign ( and Illustrator ) from CC Libraries.

That bug should be fixed with InDesign 2020.

Workaround:
Do not work with TIFF images but with PSD files.

How are you Placing your images into InDesign from the Library? Are you dragging and dropping? When you right click on an asset within the Library panel there are other Place options. Do you also get this behaviour with these options?
