InDesign 2021 crashing on macOS Big Sur while typing this (WST-111.U.771) text string

Hi there,

i am on macOS Big Sur (11.1), InDesign 16.1, Intel

 

I discovered a strange behaviour. On a data merge, InDesign crashed.

I broke it down to the following, reproducable behavior.

 

  • Open a new document
  • Create a text frame
  • Copy or tpye in the following text: WST-111.U.771

--> This leads to a crash every single time

 

Now has anyone an explanation for this?

 

Edit: The pattern seems like "AAA-111.U" that causes crashes.

Edit2: It does not seem to appear on Windows machines

Sorry about the trouble this issue has caused. We've tried to fix this in our latest release. Please update your InDesign to 16.2.1 to get this fixed.

Sorry about the trouble this issue has caused. We've tried to fix this in our latest release. Please update your InDesign to 16.2.1 to get this fixed.

I had a similiar problem with the string ,text‘-xyz pattern and German 2006 settings. But it is resolved now. In the next days will be a roll-out of the updated version. Hopefuly your problem is solved within this too.

Habe das gleiche Problem schon im November 2020 an Adobe weitergegeben. Bei mir ist es die Textfolge ,Union'-W die zum Absturz von InDesign 2021 auf MacOS Big Sure führt.

Sorry to hear about this trouble. I am afraid, I tried but, could not replicate this behavior on my BigSur machine. Would you mind sharing a few more details?

  • Exact version of BigSur
  • Is your machine powered by M1
  • A small video of the workflow.

Point 1+2 are already mentioned in the original Post.

Point 3 is also mentioned just not in video Form. How useful is recording a crash...

I could provide system log though.

Yes, it would be great if you could share the crash log. Steps are shared here ( https://helpx.adobe.com/in/indesign/kb/submit-crash-reports.html  ).

 

While submitting the crash report please use the same email address, with which you are signed in on this community. This will help us find the crash report and help accordingly.
