Question

Indesign CC 2020 keeps crashing on Copy and Paste content on macOS

Copy/paste text, components or group in InDesign forces the program to crash. I already lost a lot of work because of that issue. After crashing the file is damaged and even less trustable when editing: crashes more often when copy/paste.

*That time is was probably solved, but now it appears again.

Hi,

same problem here. I updated to 2021 but it didn`t help.
if i wanna copy paste a text from word to indesign: crash.
It doesn`t help to convert the text in any other applications....it crashs everytime. it sucks 😕😕

Same issues while copying.. just crashes. Upon opening most text formating is gone.  Totally not acceptable as this is s pro tool and especially not  for this price!.

I'm moving to affinity publisher. No regrets.

Adobe you had plenty of time and money to fix this. Game over.

Hi,

Sorry about this frustrating issue. In addition to the information asked by Uwe, please share a few more details like:

  • Is the issue related to a specific document? If yes, could you please share the document with us? You can upload it to the Creative Cloud and share the download link.
  • Where the files are saved (Network Drive/ System HDD/ Shared Folder on System /External HDD)?
  • When did this start happening? Are there any recent changes made to your system? For example, any antivirus, system updates or web extensions installed recently.

Regards!

same experiences as those above

1) yes it is a specific document, it happens to be an important project for a client and this has been a huge problem for us -  fyi the adobe cloud does not allow you to upload an indd file

2) the file has been saved to a desktop hdd  and also a server network

3) the issue happened when i was drawing a rectanlge in my indd doc (drawing rectanlges in the past seem to make adobe programs crash >insert rolling eyes emoji< ) and it just crashed and continued to crash no matter what we have tried, duplicating and re-naming the file, tried in an older version of indd, nothing has worked and it will not let me edit my paragraph styles, or copy and paste without crashing.

please get this fixed ASAP guys, this is absolutely unacceptable.

I am experiencing the exact same thing, and have been dealing with this issue for about 3 weeks now. I already reached out to an Adobe specialist, and although they seemed to have fixed the issue...it was only temporary because it is back to doing the same thing. I have updated my Indesign to v15.0.2, started the program using the shift+alt+cntl method, and I have turned off the "Copy PDF to Clipboard" preference (as suggested in the forum linked in the initial response). Nothing is working, and I am about to lose my mind. All I am trying to do is simply copy+paste some simple text boxes.

Hi Heidi,

recently I posted a possible cause for crashing with copy/paste, duplicate and moving pages.

Involved are tables with graphic cells containing text frames as e.g. part of a group that were added in a previous version of InDesign.

What's your version of InDesign?

On what operating system?

Does the text you copied contain any tables?

We are using version 15.0.1. We have Catalina 10.15.3. The pages I'm duplicating/moving do not contain tables nor graphic cells containing text frames. After restarting several times, the issue has stopped - for now.

Hi there,

We have recently released an update for InDesign 2020 (v15.0.1) which contains some stability fixes. I addition to the suggestions shared by Rishab, I would recommend you to update to the latest version and let us know how it goes.

Hi Stefan,

Sorry to hear about the trouble you are facing with InDesign. I would request you if you can share a few more details like:

  1. The exact version of macOS.
  2. Is the issue related to a specific document?
  3. If it's not document specific, you can also try resetting the preferences for InDesign and see if that helps:
  • Close all Adobe applications
  • Go to Locations:
  • ~/Library/Caches
  • ~/Library/Preferences
  • Rename Adobe InDesign and com.adobe.indesign to Adobe InDesign.old and com.adobe.indesign.old
  • Launch InDesign from the Creative Cloud Desktop App.

Disclaimer: Please note that resetting preferences will remove all the custom settings and InDesign will launch with default settings. This way all your old settings will be saved in .old folders and InDesign will recreate new folders with default settings.

Regards
