InDesign Crashed - Images disappear off the page

Hi,

I'm using InDesign CS5 on an iMac (2010) running El Capitan. I'm working on a 200+ document with over 1000+ images. My InDesign crashes and I discover some images have disappeared off the page. I can see the image in the Link but its has disappeared off the page. The images have an unusual scale of "Infinity% x -0%" and Skew of "-45º" and Effective PPI " 0 x inf". This was not set up like this.

I have resolved the problem by re-doing the page. Can anyone offer any advise to stop this happening again?

Many thanks, Mandy

CS5 is not supported at all under El Capitan. That you even got it running is better than most folks have done, but I strongly suggest rolling your operating system back to 10.6 or earlier or upgrade to Creative Cloud.

Another thing that could help is to keep your file size down by breaking your document into a number of smaller ones, and joining them with the InDesign Book feature.

Thank you, This is very useful. It is possible to split my document up into section once the pages have been set. Thanks

If the problem was caused by some inherent corruption you might want to export it as an IDML (File>Export... then select InDesign Markup (IDML) under the Format menu) and then reopen it in InDesign from that IDML file and reserve it as your current version of InDesign. As long as you are keeping it in the same version of InDesign the IDML can sometimes clean up some corruption. I would also recommend making backup copies at different stages as you progress so that in case of some further corruption you will not have a lot to recreate.

As Bob said you should also be working on a compatible operating system. With a file this large the proper relationship between program version and operating system is essential.

Thank you, I tried exporting the document as an IDMl file then re-importing it in and it fixed the corrupt file issues. I'm planning on upgrading to Creative Cloud. This hopefully my last big job in CS5! Thank you for your help.
