Issue when pasting text from word

Hi, i have an issue - i was trying to paste text from word into indesign CC 2017 while retaining all its formatting and footnotes, but for some reason, once i did that it made the entire document extremely slow. for example, each time i try to make any change to a paragraph style, say, i want to change the font or size, indent etc. the computer thinks about each click i make for a min or two between each one! it is very frustrating and time-wasting - any solutions you can think of why this is happening? (when i paste as plain text nothing is slow...) i thought maybe because the doc has a bunch of footnotes, but that makes it all that much more important for me to find a solution, because redoing each and every footnote manually would take hours!

thanks in advance.

If it is the document that is the problem, have you tried saving the file in an IDML format and then reopening the file in InDesign CC 2017? IDMLs can cure a lot of unexplained problems.

If you place the text as Aman suggested click on show import options when you get the Place dialog window. Then you will get an additional dialog which will allow you to keep the Word formatting (or not) for the text you are importing.

Thank you, i tried that, so it pastes normally with all the formatting, that isnt the issue - the issue is that it becomes really really slow...so in between each page taht i place, it needs to "think" for a few minutes, and each time i subsequently want to change a style characteristic, it thinks for another long while...

It's not clear if you tried Place or are still just pasting, but...

How big is the file in terms of pages of text? Do any of your styles use GREP expressions? Do any of your styles use the SPAN COLUMNS feature?

    Hi,

Can you try and see what happens when you place the word file(ctrl+d) and not copy paste.
