Question

Links broken when going from PC to Mac

We currently work in a mix environment of PCs and Macs. This is new for us, as we used to be 100% Macs. We have discovered that if a file is built on a PC, the links all come up broken for anyone on a Mac, and visa versa.

It seems as though the different platforms interpret the same drive differently for example:

Mac link path:

Volumes/Archive/Images/Books

PC link path:
X:/Archive/Images/Books

In addition, all of the files are stored on the same server, but within that server there is some sub-servers. If the .indd file is on the same sub-server as the links, we have little to no issues with linking, but it seems to have issues finding links on sub-folders outside of the one it lives in. (THIS IS ONLY THE CASE FOR PC USERS) The Mac does a great job at finding links across servers.

Does anyone in a mix enviornment have a solution to this!? Surely we aren't the only ones having this issue.

Please start a new thread. If this were truly a widespread issue there be a lot more reports. Please include full details on how you're working.

I'm locking this discussion since it's quite old.

That’s an network issue of some kind. I work cross platform and have worked with many clients that work cross platform and I have never seen this issue.

How would you describe it as a "Network issue"

Many other companies seem to have the same issue...

I think it's an issue of how PCs interpret link paths vs Macs. I noticed the same question has been asked for the past 10 years with no resolve...seems crazy!

If things are properly configured this shouldn’t be happening. Again, I’ve never personally seen this and I’ve seen a lot of mixed workflows.
