Hello Adobe family,

How can I number all the lines in a paragraph? I know we can number each paragraph, but all lines?

Here is a work-around-

Create a numbered list in Excel, place it into InDesign, format as desired, save the character & Paragraph style. Make a new text box for the copy. Applying the styles will match the spacing of your numbers. Here are the steps:

1. Create a numbered list in Excel- Put the number 1 in the first cell, Edit> Fill> Series> Columns> 1-1000 (save as .txt).

2. Create a narrow text box for the numbers in InDesign, turn on View> Grids & Guides> Show Baseline Grid, to help you align the numbers and text. Place the .txt file into the narrow text box.

3. Format the numbers as desired, then create Character & Paragraph styles based on the numbers.

4. Add a text box for your copy and add your copy, applying the styles should produce a spacing match to the numbers.

Not possible with the means of InDesign. But may I ask what is the purpose you need it for?
