padding between image and stroke

For an art book, I am trying to figure out how to add 5pt of padding between an image and caption and the box (stroke).  I can easily add a stroke around the image but cannot figure out how to add the padding.  Any wise thoughts? Am I missing something?  cheers.

If you click the center of the position proxy:

…you can add 10pt to the width and height, then select a color for the image frame, which will give you your padding.

If you need to re-center the image, use the settings in Object>Fitting. This can probably be scripted, but I can't help you with that.

Thank you! Can you tell me where in InDesign I can find the center of the position proxy. I can't seem to find the panel that allows me to add the padding.

The position proxy is the thing I circled in red in my first screen shot. If you wanted to (for example) increase the width of an object by entering a larger number in the width field, clicking on the top left dot in the proxy will mean that the top left corner of your image stays in place, while the right corner expands to the right. If you had the top center dot selected, both the left and right corners would move, but the center would not. Makes sense?
