Question

Photoshop paths in Indesign

Hello,

I have an Indesign CS6 document that a customer has placed photos into. If the links are broken and then re-linked 2 of the placed files automatically use the path that is in the photoshop file. They do not want to use this path as they have placed this image in a square box and are expecting the background to show up. However, as soon as I re-link the images the path takes over and clips the image. The file in the box is set to none in the clipping path options but that does not seem to matter cause as soon as file is re-linked it uses the path. This was not noticed and caused a problem when customer checking the proof produced. Is there any way to stop this??

Thank you in advance for any help.

Are you relinking or updating a link?

If you’re relinking that is pretty much the same thing as placing the file originally so you should show options when doing so.

Actually Bob 1 was a re-link and 1 was an update and both did the same thing. The only thing about showing options is that I am re-linking about 96 photos and to do the 1 at a time and show options would be cumbersome. Was hoping there was some preference that did this and could be turned off but probably not.

When you update the art you can first choose only the images that have the unwanted clipping paths to update. Then using Show Import Options you can make sure that "Apply Photoshop Clipping Path" is unchecked as in screen shot below. This dialog will pop up for every image you've selected and you will have to make sure that this is unchecked for each. But after doing these you can then select all of the rest of the images from the Links Panel and relink those without having to have the Show Import Options checked.
