Problem with embed video - Indesign

New Here ,
Oct 15, 2017 Oct 15, 2017

Hello indesin professional !

At work, I'm with Indesign CS6.

I'm trying to make an interactiv pdf with embed video.

I first made one with imported video (H264 MP4 video file) and everything fine except the size of the pdf.

Then, I made another one with an online video (exactly the same MP4 files on an http server).

On indesign, everything is working.

On the pdf, I have the picture of the video but when I click on it, I just have a black/grey square and nothing else....

I've tried with different server and different format (FLV) with the same results.

Any ideas ?

Regards,

F.P.

Many PDF readers cannot play embedded videos. You should be able to in Acrobat or Reader on a desktop or laptop. It's even less likely if you're trying on a mobile device. Even Adobe Reader for mobile doesn't support playing videos. There are only a few, like PDF Expert (not free) that do.

And even less likely to work the video is being streamed.

My adobe reader can read online video. I've already tested it.

you are better off making it a regular hyperlink to the webpage where the video is hosted.

It is just what I don't want to do.

I discover that : http://www.davidgilmour.com/freedom/AGreatDayForFreedom_LITE.pdf and I want to do the same kind of video integration in order

1) to have a lite pdf ;

2) to insure that people stay in my document.

The gilmour's pdf works well with my acrobat reader so I don't understant why I can't do it with Indesign.

If you are fine with the user been online to experience the interactivity, why publish online instead of a .pdf?

Hi.

A PDF containing a video made with InDesign can be played by a few set of PDF Readers.

In any case the PDF Reader, even Acrobat Reader, requires the Flash Player plugin to play the video.

A Great Day For Freedom is a nice "Interactive PDF" which was made during the glory days of SWF, FLV and Flash player, but it's obsolete now.

SWF and FLV are not part of the PDF 2.0 format, aka ISO 32000-2:2017.
