REMOVING FILL FROM PEN TOOL: INDESIGN

I'm using CS4 and I couldn't find this in a search. Whenever I use the pen tool in inDesign, it always has some sort of fill. I'm trying to remove this but can't figure out where I'm supposed to go to do it.

The purpose of me using the pen tool is that I'm trying to create a path to put text on. I want the path to be smooth, so I assume that the pen tool is the best option for that. I just have never really used it for anything before, which is why even basic functions elude me.

I figured it out. In case anyone else has this question, there's a tiny icon below the regular fill icon on the tool bar that is the default fill icon. Clicking on it removes fills. Now, how do I close my threads on these forums?

    Hi,

I think that the problem may be that your default fill and stroke settings are set to stroke black and fill white. With no objects selected, change your fill to color none and you should be good from then on for all new objects that you create.

    Malcom,

Thanks for the response. Could you elaborate further on how this is done, though? When I use photoshop, it's easy for me to figure out how to change the fill. But with Illustrator and inDesign, it seems like a weird process that I just can't grasp.

I don't know if I'm supposed to access this from the fill icon in the toolbar towards the bottom, or if I'm supposed to use the menu bar at the top of the screen. The tool icon just seems to let me choose a color and not set it to none, and the icons in the menu bar are grayed out or not available.
