Shape Builder Tool

Is there a function in InDesign that is similar to the shape builder tool. I want to create an arc that has multi colors that are solid. Using a gradient isn't a good option.

Nope. In InDesign you're limited to Pathfinder's Shape Modes, which in turn lacks some features available in Illustrator.

InDesign doesn't have such a tool, but you could construct an arc with the help of the pathfinder panel. Then create colored objects and group them. Copy the group to the clipboard, mark the arc and use EDIT > PASTE INTO.

The content and the shape remain editable.

Need more explanation on how to do that. I'm not advanced enough to do that yet.

If you feel yourself more comfortable in Illy, do it there, and place a finished shape as ai file to InDesign. It's even better solution if you're going to have multiple instances of that same artwork in ID document. Much easier to edit just one source file later, if needed, and then update links in ID.

He has Illustrator? I thought he has InDesign only. If so, I wasted my time with giving tips for tricky workarounds.

Ha, not sure, actually…

OP just mentioned a tool from Illy, sounds to me like he/she is more familiar with that app…
