Text bunching up

When I paste about 20 pages of text into a text frame in InDesign, some of the text "bunches up" together, with very little space between the lines.  The rest of the text is ok.  This happens despite the fact that the entire text is supposedly controlled by the same style that I have set up  for the text frame in which it resides.  I don't know how to get the text to pay attention to the style by which it is supposedly governed. Thanks for any ideas.

I got it to work. I had to paste the text into Notepad and then re-paste it back into InDesign.  Now my style rules apply to the entire text.
