I'm using InDesign CC 2018 and trying to set up a paragraph style with centered vertical alignment for repeating headers in a long document. I am able to set the vertical alignment on individual text boxes in the Text Frame Options > General (Ctrl/command + b), but vertical alignment options don't seem to be available in the Paragraph Styles > Style Options or Character Styles > Style Options. Is this just not possible? Has anyone else found the vertical alignment controls within Paragraph Styles > Style Options? I'm using master pages for my repeating elements but this is still tedious.
Hi there
1- apply the paragraph style to your text
2- select the text box with the selection tool / right click and select text frame options
3- inside the text frame options change the vertical alignment to center and click ok
4- Go to the menu Windows and select Style and then Object Style
5- with the object selected (the text box) create a new object style and double click to open it
6- Barb post is showing you the correct options

My question is, is there a way to control vertical alignment in a paragraph style. I understand where to find the text alignment controls for individual text boxes. Thank you.

Hi Teri:
My question is, is there a way to control vertical alignment in a paragraph style.
No.
However, you can create an object style that will nest a paragraph style—so that when you assign the object style it calls in the appropriate paragraph style, and that would be my recommendation.

Barb,
Sorry, I'm still not getting this. I understand that horizontal alignment is a paragraph attribute and that vertical alignment is a frame attribute. How do I create a New Object Style? How are you getting to this dialogue box?
Thank you.

Did Eugenio.NYC's explanation help, terin1?
If so, great! If not...
How are you getting to this dialogue box?
Window > Styles > Object Styles
I would go head and format the text the way you want it to look, then save it as a paragraph style—it sounds like you know how to do that? Then, format the frame the way you want it to look and save it as an object style:
Now that you have an object style, you can assign both the paragraph attributes and the object attributes with a single click.
Before assigning "Example":
