P: Arrow keys broken in Compare

In the Library module, I select a group of photos and use "compare" mode. Up until I upgraded to 9.4, I could use the arrow keys on the keyboard to move between the pictures in the group. That's broken now. It's not my keyboard (keys work fine). The graphical arrows on the Lightroom interface still work with the mouse.

I don't typically use the arrows on the screen or my keyboard to move along the filmstrip.  However, in an attempt to replicate what you described I can confirm that using the arrows on the "interface" do move me back and forth but that using the arrows on my keyboard does not.

That trick doesn't work for me Roelof. Thanks for the suggestion though.

I rolled it back to 9.3 and the arrow keys work properly now. There's definitely something wrong with 9.4.

I have a similar experience to Roelof on my macOS 10.15.6 and Lr9.4.  When I First enter compare mode I have to select the Candidate and then Compare arrows work correctly.  After this if I stay in Compare mode and select a different set of photos the arrow keys work except that Select is first selected which  is not what I want so I have to chose Candidate.

I think I must have misunderstood this report. I now find that the keyboard left/right arrow keys don't work in Compare View for LrC 9.4.

I too am having this problem.  If I delete the Preference file located
C:\Users\User\AppData\Roaming\Adobe\Lightroom\Preferences
It works one time and then after it re-creates the file, it does not work.

Lightroom comparison view ("XY") is always loosing the reference picture.
I would like to set a fix picture and scroll through alternatives to quickly rate and compare them.
- arrow keys are not working
- it's constantly loosing the reference. It should be possible to really lock the reference I tried several times with different approaches to use this function. It is only useful for comparing a few hand picked pictures but not with a large selection.

p.s. Please dear developers, have a deeper look at a professional software like CaptureOne and you cry next time you open lightroom.

Reminds me of one of the old Murphy's Laws of COBOL computer programming: "Make it possible for programmers to write programs in English, and you will find that programmers can not write in English." However, here I believe that the programmers do not speak or understand English since they are likely offshore.

What's with the introduction of bugs in areas unrelated to new features for LR? Are the devs re-writing it? I'm very tired of paying to be a perpetual beta tester.

To be clear, those of you monitoring this thread, are you referring to the arrow keys in Lr or on the keyboard?  Those in Lr work fine and respect the Reference Image, but on my keyboard, they don't work at all, which would be much handier.

Yes, the Arrow Keys on the Keyboard no longer work for some number of people for an unclear reason.  It is very handy to be able to use Compare with the keyboard Arrow Keys!

I was also talking about the keyboard keys, which are essential for a fluent selection process.

Please--this needs to be fixed as it was the most important part of my workflow to quickly move thru the compare module using the right/left keys and up key!!

When I view 2 photos side by side to compare in XY mode, I cant advance to the next photo with my right arrow key like I always used to do and I cant remove the side panels to only display the 2 photos with the TAB key.

With quirky behavior such as this, Bradley, I recommend starting by restarting Lightroom. If that doesn't work, reset preferences.

Latest software updates: Windows 10 Pro and Lightroom, my results

Yes, the arrow keys have no effect.

The tab key acts as a toggle to close /open the left and right panels.

As I've never used either of these techniques, I can't comment on whether this is a change.
