Hi,

Since just now, I've been experiencing a weird bug / crash in Lightroom Classic (on a Mac), where ALL my photos suddenly are fully covered in artefacts in the Develop module.

lightroom develop module.jpg

(Screengrab from the Develop module in Lightroom Classic)

When I check the linked RAW + JPEG source files in Finder, they all seem ok (they don't look corrupted, nor show any artefacts here), meaning the issue is within Lightroom.

raw source file.jpg

(Screengrab from the RAW source file in Finder)

When I export images out of Lightroom (with any setting, edited or even not edited), the artefacts are also present on the export files.

export.jpg

(Screengrab from the exported JPG image)

This problem started occuring soon after I applied the new AI noise reduction feature on just ONE (1) photo.

I already tried:

  • Closing and re-opening Lightroom
  • Shutting down (fully), and restarting the computer after 1 minute
  • Switching the GPU accelrator setting in Lightroom on/off

MY SPECS

  • Lightroom Classic 13.0.1 - Build (202310121438-d2af310c)
  • Macbook Pro 16" - 2019
  • 2,3Ghz 8-core Intel Core i9
  • AMD Radeon Pro 5500M 8GB
  • 32GB 2667MHz DDR4 memory
  • OS Sonoma 14.4.1

Any help would be greatly appreciated, because this makes the whole software unusable....

Thank you!

We're investigating an issue with the macOS 14.4.1 update that affects systems running AMD series GPUs.

The issue manifests as garbling of/artifacts in images in Develop/Edit views and similar artifacts in Exported images.  The problem can afflict Camera Raw (16.2.1), Lightroom Classic (13.2) and Lightroom Desktop (7.2).  Restarting the application should restore your Develop/Edit view and return you to the expected Export results.

The team is working with the OS manufacturer to identify t

@ozulrike, "So far, the issue has not occurred again. "

Did you change the setting of Preferences > Performance > Use Graphics Processor or just restart LR?

Your screenshots and given that you're using a Mac, then I suspect your issue is the same one described in this bug report https://community.adobe.com/t5/lightroom-classic-bugs/p-gpu-develop-edit-view-amp-export-artifacts-a...

If you could submit a copy of your 'System Info', which can be obtained from the LrC Help > System Info menu item, we would be better placed to confirm that you've been bitten by the above linked bug.

Without knowing more about your system, I'll guess that your graphics card or screen are failing.  It may also be a graphic card driver that needs updating.   To me, that does not look like a Lightroom failure.

Thanks for responding.

My laptop specs:

Apple 2019 MacBook Pro (16-inch, 16GB RAM, 1TB Storage, 2.3GHz Intel Core i9)

I am seeing it happen quite a bit in the wedding photography groups I am a member of. I will go find the minimum requirements for LRCC

Consider also it may be a camera problem.

I also have seen a similar fault appear in files from a (point & shoot) camera that was used in very cold conditions. (4 degrees C).

If working to check the Graphics card drive is not successful, you might access a friends system of Lightroom, to test the image files there.

Regards. My System: Lightroom-Classic 14.0, Photoshop 26.0, ACR 17.0, Lightroom 8.0, Lr-iOS 9.0.1, Bridge 15.0.0, Windows-11.

Given the artefacts you're seeing plus the computer model and GPU, then there's high probablity that you're seeing the same bug as detailed at https://community.adobe.com/t5/lightroom-classic-bugs/p-gpu-develop-edit-view-amp-export-artifacts-a...

Cristina@AMTL, "Metal: AMD Radeon Pro 5500M"

As suspected, your Mac also has an AMD Radeon Pro 5500M graphics processor, which is one of the culprits causing these symptoms. So you'll need to use one of the workarounds:

I also have issues with gliched images bug, I am using mac. I can work only with GPU turned of, but then some funcions are very slow

Mac OS 14.4.1 included a buggy driver for the AMD 5000 series GPUs. Many people are tripping over this issue and Adobe has said they're working with Apple and AMD on it.

For the glitchy images, others have reported two workarounds: 1) Restart LR when the glitches occur or 2) Set Preferences > Performance > Use Graphics Processor to Off.

For problems with AI masking caused by buggy drivers, you're out of luck: For some inexplicable reason, Adobe refuses to allow users to disable use of the GPU by LR's AI commands.
