P: Mouse click inaccuracy : Straighten tool & Eye dropper on High DPI monitors at 250% OS scaling

On a HightDPI laptop, the straighten tool and the eye dropper do not click where the mouse points. This is a big enough problem because it makes these tools unusable. Unfortunately, this seems to be a problem of more than six years and still has not been fixed (https://community.adobe.com/t5/lightroom-classic-bugs/p-white-balance-dropper-target-location-is -offset-on-high-dpi-windows-devices / idi-p / 12250363). Could I get information on how this fix stands, especially since Photoshop doesn't have this problem, for example? I have an ASUS ProArt Studio laptop with a 16 "4K monitor with a 250% monitor setting.

Adobe marked that bug report as fixed in version 9.3 (June 2020):

https://community.adobe.com/t5/lightroom-classic-bugs/p-white-balance-dropper-target-location-is-off...

Two users confirmed that it was fixed for them, and no one followed up that it wasn't fixed for them.

Given that, I recommend you post a new bug report in the Bugs section, providing all the requested information as described here:

https://community.adobe.com/t5/lightroom-classic-bugs/how-do-i-write-a-bug-report/idi-p/12386373

Full-resolution, full-window screenshots and screen recordings can be very helpful too.  (For screen recordings, you need to upload them to Dropbox, Google Drive, or similar and include the sharing link.)

Unfortunately, the error has not completely disappeared everywhere. I have an ASUS ProArt StudioBook. It runs Windows 11 Pro. The screen is 16" and has a resolution of 3840x2400 with the recommended setting of 250%. Adobe Lightroom Classis is the latest version, version number 11.4.1, Camera Raw version number is 14.4.1. These can also be seen in the attached video . In the video, I demonstrated that when I use the straighten tool, the starting point of the ruler appears above and to the left of the mouse click. By the way, the mouse works well everywhere in Windows and in most places in Lightroom.

I have been waiting for a repair for more than a year, but nothing happens. How is it possible that the mouse works perfectly on the same computer with other programs? This is a very expensive photo editing laptop and Adobe produces such a banal error and apparently does not even deal with the repair. This is beyond annoying. Should I cancel my Adobe subscription and choose another program?

Hi,

this problem has already been reported by several people in several posts (including myself), but almost a year has passed since my last report and nothing has happened, and several posts have been closed by saying that the error has been fixed, which is not true, at least not with my configuration. This problem renders several important functions of Lightroom Classic unusable (e.g. straightening, using the eye dropper in various functions). I think high DPI monitors (even 4K monitors) are quite common today and many photographers use them. I have an ASUS ProArt Studio laptop with a 16" 4K monitor, with 250% windows setting. I am using the latest Adobe Lightroom Classic, v.12.4. Again, please reopen the error investigation and report back, that they are dealing with this problem, because I can't use the program like this and I have already invested too much in the hardware I use, so I will look for other software if all the ropes are broken. Here are a couple of previous announcements:

What good is this forum if you can only report a bug here, but even after a year it is not included in the list of officially recognized bugs? Do Adobe people even read this list? As a paying user, I am outraged and consider the support to be rubbish.

As you do not mention what bug report you have in mind, nobody can comment on why it is still not in the list of recognized bugs. One reason could be that it isn't a bug. Many people seem to think that any problem that they personally encounter must be a bug, but that is not the case. It could be 'as designed', or -and this is very often the case- it could be something specific to your computer, like using outdated GPU drivers. It is amazing how many times that turns out to be the issue. But yes, it does happen that bugs reports seem to get ignored sometimes.

By Péter Kollányi

Your new posting today about no one from Adobe reading the Forum, got my attention to your posting above. (assuming this is the one your are complaining about)

So, you have an ASUS Pro Art Studio Laptop, and at the time of the above LrC v11.4, and later in the replies you updated to v12.4 (and in your most recent post, you did not list your LrC version, but can I assume v12.5, probably not important to this issue). Also, I see that your OS is Windows, but I do not see what version (may have overlooked). At any rate moving on.

One bit of info that gives me some points as to having a say in your problem, and if it is a bug or a user hardware issue. I too have an ASUS Pro Art Laptop. in my case the ProArt Studiobook Pro 16 OLED. 13th Gen Intel i9-13980HX, 64 GB RAM, NVIDIA RTX 3000 ADA GPU, 8GB VRAM, Windows 11 Pro, LrC v12.5

Moving on. Testing on my Laptop, in my LrC. I do not have the problem you describe.

So, this may be a posting that belongs in Discussions as it does not appear to be repeatable on another rig.

Your Laptop probably came with at least one application to check for driver and firmware updates. Probably an app (bit of a web line actually) called My ASUS. In My ASUS, see a section called Customer Support. In Customer Support, see a tab on Live Updates, check for updates. You might also want to look at that tab for diagnostics.

Is your ASUS up to date?

A side note, a bit of a PS. I also have a very new store built PC with an ASUS Pro ART Z790 Creator WiFi Motherboard. LrC behaved badly until I updated the Chip Set drivers (Store that built it had Internet issue the day they put it together, I had to update some things when I brought it home, not nice of them but it is what is is/was). Lessons learned is all sorts of out of date drivers can foul up LrC.

Oh, and No, I am not a Adobe employee, just another member of the community like you. And No, the Adobe Techs do not often interact in the community.

Have a look at @GoldingD's recent response to your discussion last year

https://community.adobe.com/t5/lightroom-classic-discussions/mouse-click-inaccuracy-in-the-straighte...

As part of the process of elimination, are all drivers up to date on your ASUS ProArt Studio laptop?

with a 250% monitor setting

Ahh, that got me rethinking.

First up, 250% is not my normal setting, and I assume you meant the display settings (Scale) via Windows. What I am refering to in Windows OS is /Setings/System/Display/Scale/.  So I tested that out, but nope, not an issue on my laptop.

1.pngexpand image

But that beings up a different idea (somehow) on what to search for, and I tried "mouse Accuracy". And that sends me to the following:

https://community.adobe.com/t5/lightroom-classic-discussions/straighten-tool-loses-accuracy/m-p/1403...

So, I went into Preferences > Interface > Font Size and set that to to 250%, and dang if the straighten tool shows this issue (My WB Picker did not)

2.pngexpand image

Note that after each change to Windows or to LrC I restarted Lrc. (Or so I thought)

When you stated 250% monitor setting was that a Windows Display setting, or the LrC Fonts setting?

At any rate, does the above link sound like your issue?

BIG HUGE FOLLOWUP (yep I am shouting for emphasis)

After the above testing, with Windows scaling back up at 250%, I relaunched LrC again, And dang it if the Font size was not 250% (preferences set to automatic) and your issue popped up for the straighten tool (but not WB). Setting the LrC Font to Large, then restarting LrC corrected that issue.

Now, if I reset my Windows display scaling back at 150% (recommend) and LrC Font setting at 250%, The problem comes back. So looks like the issue is in LrC, in Preferences, in Font setting.

3.pngexpand image

4.pngexpand image

Your issue might be a bug (yep the word bug) in the LrC Font setting .

Iam  assuming you are scaling on that big 4K as to be able to see better, things can get small. I cannot assume you are internally changing the LrC Font size to 250% (but the default of automatic might accomplish that anyhow).

As you have Windows OS, not MACOS, you can consider changing the display resolution to smaller than the default (I assume again) 3840x2400 and then scaling up. That is go for a smaller resolution and no scaling up (perhaps limit that to the default 150%) That could eliminate the LrC Font upscaling to 250% and the problem might go away or at lest not be so prevalent.

And/or, you might consider in LrC to not accept the prefences default of Automatic, and select smaller than 200%.

This is a workaround, not a solution.

The device is up-to-date, I regularly run the MyASUS application and the NVIDIA program (my profession is a programming mathematician, I usually make sure that my devices always receive all updates). Windows 11 version with all updates installed. My Lightroom Classic is 12.5 and Camera Raw is 15.5. What percentage is your screen scaling set to?

This is the error:

In general, I think that a well-functioning support should definitely respond to a user, even if they don't think the problem is theirs.
