P: Lightroom V14.4 - Error when attempting to use new Denoise - Attempt to index a nil value

I installed the new version 14.4 today. Whenever I attempt to use the new denoise slider, I get this error "attempt to index a nil value".  And then, when I try to use the old-fashioned denoise, I get "image not loaded". I am working on a MacBook Pro with an M2 chip and I already reset Lightroom preferences. Anyone else having this issue?

Hi,
I'm experiencing an error when trying to use the AI Denoise tool in Lightroom Classic version 14.4 (Camera Raw 17.4).

Every time I attempt to apply Denoise, I get this message:

Internal error: ??:0: attempt to index a nil value

This happens even when:

• Using a new catalog

• Working with different RAW (NEF) files

• GPU acceleration is enabled or disabled

• Camera Raw cache is cleared

• My NVIDIA RTX 4060 drivers are fully updated

I’m using a modern machine (Asus Vivobook Pro 15, Intel Core Ultra 9, NVIDIA RTX 4060), and everything else works fine.
I’ve tried resetting preferences and reinstalling Lightroom, but the issue persists.

I noticed other users are also reporting similar Denoise errors in version 14.x. Is there any fix coming or further guidance?

Could you help us out by sharing a quick screen recording that shows your full workflow and highlights the issue? That would be super helpful!

Also, if you could share your System Info, that’d give us more context. You can find it in Lightroom Classic under Help > System Info. Just copy the info into a text file and attach it here, or feel free to share it via Google Drive, WeTransfer, or any file-sharing service you prefer.

Hello, I contacted Adobe support and a technician assisted me remotely by accessing my computer. Apparently, after the recent Lightroom update, the catalog somehow became partially corrupted. He copied the files to a new catalog, and the issue was resolved! Without his support, I probably wouldn’t have been able to fix it... but just a heads-up — there might be a bug in this latest update!

Ik zal je zo vlug mogelijk de info doorsturen maar momenteel nog bezig met
fotobewerking in de vorige backup. In afwachting ben ik terug naar de
vorige backup gegaan.

Zodra deze klaar is, ga ik opnieuw naar de laatste update en zal ik je de

I’ve merged your thread with others reporting the same issue so we can keep everything in one place and gather all the info we need to investigate.

When you see the issue again, it would be super helpful if you could grab a console log. Here’s how to do that:

macOS

In Finder, go to Go > Go to Folder
Type ~/Library and press Enter
Navigate to Logs > Adobe > Lightroom
Copy the lrc_app.log file

On Windows

Press the Windows key + R, type %appdata%, and press Enter
Go to Adobe > Lightroom
Copy the lrc_console.log file

I am having the same problem, so I created a new catalog and tried to import from the previous catalog, but that import failed. I also optimized the catalog, entered and exited several times, restarted the computer, tried denoising one or a batch of photographs. What I see is the Denoise button with a grey slider below set at 50. I can click the Denoise (but not the slider) and after a minute or so I get the message posted by @zanine_9957 .

This is a recent Windows 11 64 bit with integrated GPU and I have fully updated Lightroom (LC 14.4/ CR 17.4). I have plenty of space on both internal and external drive. Denoise worked until a week or two ago, i.e. before the most recent update.

Ich habe das neueste MacBook Pro und kann mit dem neuen Lightroom Update die Bilder nicht mehr entrauschen. Es zeigt mir dann eine Fehlermeldung an: ein interner Fehler ist aufgetreten. ?:0: attempt to index a nil value

Die CR3 Dateien sind in einem Ordner und nicht über Cloud....

Ich musste wieder auf eine ältere Version switchen, weil ich so nicht arbeiten kann. Echt mega ärgerlich!!!!

Go Finder. Select Go > Go to Folder.
Type ~/Library and press Enter.
Go to Application Support >  Adobe > Camera Raw 
Copy the Logs folder and share it with us. 

Win

Press the Windows key and R. Type %appdata% and press Enter.
Go to Adobe > Camera Raw
Copy the Logs folder and share it with us.

Hi @stefanieh54261563, Thanks for reaching out! I'm sorry to hear about your trouble with LrC. I can understand how frustrating it can be.

Could you please share more information, such as your system configuration (from Help> System Info> Copy and paste it into a text file and attach it to your response)? Is this happening with just CR3 files or other Raw formats, too? 

You can try out these fixes and see if they will fix up the issue.

Try Resetting Lightroom Classic's preferences: Please look at this helpx article for steps and more information on resetting Lightroom Classic preferences.
