P: Print module list of page sizes doesn't update

In Lightroom Classic's Print Module, the Page Setup pop-up menu that lets me select a paper page size no longer changes when I switch printers. This used to work (I have been printing in LR for years) and I can still print to the printers. I just can't tell LR the page size I want.

I have no issues in other apps (PS, QImage, etc) which correctly show me the list of supported pages sizes. Indeed, LR seems to know about the options as the "Printer..." dialog has a Scale to fit paper size option that is correct. It just looks like the Page Setup list of print sizes never gets updated and stays on the "Any Printer" default list.

I'm on a recent Macbook Pro M3 running current Sonoma (14.4) , latest version of LR (I tried deleting, re-installing, installing prio version, rebooting laptop, updated print driver, and anything else I could think of to no avail). Main printer I use is a Canon Pro 100, but same issue on another printer. And as I say, PS (etc) has no issues.

I can partially get around this with custom page sizes, but I can't trick the printer into doing borderless prints that way.

Thanks in advance for ideas.

in the future, to find the best place to post your message, use the list here, https://community.adobe.com/

p.s. i don't think the adobe website, and forums in particular, are easy to navigate, so don't spend a lot of time searching that forum list. do your best and we'll move the post (like this one has already been moved) if it helps you get responses.

Thanks so much for the help with this.  It's a frustrating problem that Adobe isn't helping much with.  Hopefully someone will know what's going on.  Thanks again!

There is a very long thread on this forum about this problem (see link below), because it’s happening to a large number of people. It was moved to the Bugs category and Adobe applied the status “Investigating” to it.

The latest useful update is the one posted by Adobe on April 18, which says:

quote

Note: We are tracking this internally but have a dependency on the OS manufacturer to supply an update.

This thread will be notified when there is a change.

Thank you for your patience.

“A dependency on the OS manufacturer to supply an update” might be interpreted as “the bug is in the OS, so wait for the next OS update,” but my interpretation is not official because I don’t work for Adobe. But that is what the wording seems to say.

Another issue related to this thread is that the Portrait and Landscape mode do not work properly with custom made paper presets in Lightroom.

In case that the height of the custom preset is smaller than the width if you tick Portrait or Landscape and then you hit the ok button nothing changes. But if you let the Portrait or Landscape no matters where it was and you hit ok, then the image rotate.

Screenshot 2024-04-24 at 11.09.02 AM.png

If the hight is bigger than the width everything works as it should.

I apologise if the description of the problem is not very clear, but english is not my first language.

Hello Marty,

You can print with Epson Print Layout:

Hope it works for you, I use EPL for a few days now and find it very good to print with.

I also am having this issue — it's mostly affecting Adobe apps, but also Microsoft Word.

April 15th I updated to OS 14.4.1 from 14.4 (a Mac Mini (M1 2020)) and then the printer dialogue box started offering me less page sizes for my printer (RICOH MP C5505 PS). Normally it offers 58 paper size choices including all of the borderless choices. Now in some apps, I only have 14 paper size choices, with zero borderless choices.

I've tried making my own custom page, but even when I make it with 0 borders, it's not truely borderless and still prints with a white border whereas the "borderless" options print to the edges of the paper.

Doesn't work in: Illustrator 2024, Acrobat, InDesign, Lightroom Classic, Microsoft Word

Works fine in: Photoshop 2024, Safari, Excel, Preview, PowerPoint, TextEdit, Numbers, Notes

Thanks for the info Conrad. I feel some better knowing I'm not alone, but
it would be nice if the problem was fixed. You'd think Adobe might send
out an email to subscribers about the problem instead of letting people
like me talk to one of their technical people somewhere in the world for 90
minutes and not get any answer from them.

Not likely that you can use Epson Print Layout with a non-Epson printer. But you can send a photo to Photoshop with Lr edits (use Edit In context menu), and then print from PS, assuming you have the Photography subscription.

That's what I've been doing. Photoshop wasn't working until I called and
the tech support told me how to reset the print function. So thankfully
it's working now. I can print that way but Photoshop just doesn't offer
all the nice options that Lightroom does......or did:-)

Thanks for the help. It's much appreciated!

For MACOS, after a OS upgrade or update, the printer driver(s) may have taken a hit. This might call for a removal of the printers and a reinstall of the printers. With some printers the reinstall might involve acquiring the driver from the printer mfg, not Apple. Unlike GPU drivers, the print drivers are one item that you can replace without Apple.

I know the thread is getting long, but that's not the problem being discussed here.

And FWIW, I haven't seen that issue in at least the last few updates (frequently before that).

I was able to reset the print module in Photoshop by simply opening the
Print function, click and hold the Print command and tap the Spacebar while
holding the Print command. The reset worked and I am able to print
borderless using Photoshop.

I always have to reinstall my printer after a macOS update, so I checked to
be sure I had the latest driver and then reinstalled the printer. It
didn't help the problem of printing with Lightroom Classic.

You're correct. this was the workaround suggested to me by the Adobe representative and when I saw the entire list of papers I assumed this was the way to buypass  the problem. Subsequently I found the selection didn't carry  over to the actual printing of the image.  I reported what appeared to be a solution before totally implementing it on my system.  Sorry!

Reinstalled the Epson printer with the latest driver for Epson Stylus Pro 3880. No improvement. Specifically even though I can now see more paper options on both LR and PS, borderless printing remains unavailable on Mac Studio with Sonoma MacOS 14.4.1 on both.

As others have mentioned similar problems on PC I am suspecting abn Adobe problem!!

I too, seem to have this issue.  Mac Studio, OS 14.4.1.  Epson ET-8550, Driver 13.05.  LRC, 13.2.  Someone had an update recently (either Apple or Adobe) - I cannot print a 13x19 (possibly other large sizes).  Also cannot see Cassette #1 for 4x6 or 5x7 prints.  Additionally, all of the printing works fine from MacBook Pro, OS 13~latest; Also works fine from Win11.  A colleague has Mac Studio with same version and OS and doesn't see issues with ET-8500.  Epson is basically stating they believe this is an application (or OS) related issue.  Will call Adobe today and see what they say, if anything.  Curious if anyone else has found any success.  I have uninstalled applications and drivers.  Same results on my MacBook Air running 14.4.1.

Read the entire thread. It's an LrC issue with Sonoma 14.4 ( and 14.4.1). Most other applications don't have this problem, but some do (Capture One, Acrobat, Word).

I have had the best luck with Epson Print Layout which is an export plug-in. Or Edit in Photoshop (with LR adjustments). Both have all the page sizes, borderless, roll paper, etc. The only thing you don't get is picture packages or contact sheets.

Install the "Professional Print & Layout" utility from canon. You can find the latest version easily online. In Lightroom Classic you'll find it under "Plug-In Extras"

Select the picture you want to print in Lightroom --> Open the utility and Print from there.

The best workaround I could find. Still annoying that the bug hasn't been fixed..

Thanks for the info and help with this. I agree that it's aggravating that
nothing has been done and Adobe has yet to say anything about it to those
of us who pay each month for their software. I like Adobe products, but I
think they should be more customer friendly.
