P: Remove tool clone and heal is missing source handle

Community Beginner ,
May 23, 2024 May 23, 2024

When using the clone and heal options of the revised remove tool, Lightroom automatically picks a source area as previously, however there is now (Lightroom Classic v13.3 on Windows 11) no way to change this manually.  The drag handle doesn't appear when hovering over the source area.  The tool overlay is visible, I can see both the source area and destination.  The destination area can be moved and dragged, the handle appears when the cursor is over this, but not for the source area.

We've opened at ticket it investigate.

Workaround: It appears that disabling the "Use Smart Previews instead of Originals for image editing: setting in Preferences>Performance will restore expected functionality until we can get a fix released.

I assume the same fix for ACR is coming soon too?

13.3.1 appears to have fixed my disappearing handle problem.  Thanks to the support team for prioritizing this bug.  Standard remove/clone is a high priority function for me.  The smart previews workaround did not actually work for me but somehow 13.3.1 did.

I've just encountered this problem for the first time, when upgrading to a silicon MacBook Pro. Everything works correctly at 100%, but not at other zoom levels, which is really annoying. 200% is a better magnification for modern high-res displays, and sometimes I want to move the source point when zoomed out, so I can move it to a completely different part of the image that I can't see at 100%.

Actually, I take that back. Now it doesn't work at all at any zoom level for an area I paint over (by dragging the brush). It only works if I click once to place a circular spot - then I can move the source point. Otherwise I can't. I'm using Lightroom Classic 13.4 on a 16-inch MacBook Pro, M3 Max chip, running Sonoma 14.4. I have this problem with or without "Use Smart Previews instead of origanals" checked.

LATEST

@David Lake Photos, Adobe reported this bug fixed in LR in 13.3.1, and some users confirmed it was fixed for them, and only one other use has reported the symptoms in the ten months since. Since Adobe has closed this thread as "fixed", I recommend you post a new bug report:

https://community.adobe.com/t5/lightroom-classic-bugs/p-how-do-i-write-a-bug-report/idi-p/12386373

Include:

1. The complete output from the menu command Help > System Info.

2. A short screen recording of the entire LR window showing the problem:
