P: Subject Mask from previous versions are requesting an update

After updating Lightroom Classic to v14 and converted my database, all the edited photos that had a "Subject Mask" applied now have an empty mask with a warning and exclamation mark (!).

If I let Lightroom correct the mask pushing the exclamation mark on a single photo, it seems the correct subject is selected, keeping the edits. If I do the same with multiple photos together it appears teh usual form that tells that the AI masks are recalculated, but at the end all the masks are still empty with warnings.

Greetings all,

A new update for Adobe Photography Products has been released.  The 14.0.1 update contains an update for this issue.

If you do not see the update in your Creative Cloud Application, you can refresh it by hitting [Ctrl/Cmd]+[Alt/Opt]+[ R ].

Note: It may take up to 24 hours for your update to be available in your Creative Cloud app.

Thank you for being so patient.

@dewaynec

If you've previously used the workaround, no additional action is necessary.

If not, the LrClassic team recommends restoring the 13.x catalog from the "Old Lightroom Catalog" folder and re-upgrading it.

Manually update any masks that may have been updated in 14.0

It is important to restore the 13.x catalog and upgrade it using the same location as before to avoid the need to regenerate previews.

Note: If you did a lot of work in 14.0, it isn't recommended to restore from the 13.x backup.

Hello, since i updated the LR CLASSIC im getting a problem.

After installed, it asks for a catalog update. It was done. Nothing wrong and i opened the catalog without problems and i noticed AI masks need a manual update. I edited again some photos AND ( here is the bug ) , EVERY TIME i exit develop mode, back to library , go to another photo and back to first one i need to update the masks AGAIN...

At library, you can see the thumbnail with the edits but when you go to dev mode, the masks need be updated.

EDIT: ANY AI mask have problems... all AI remove/generate need be updated too.

EDIT 2: When you start editing a photo ( no previous edit on older catalog ) it works without problem ( at least for the first moment .. lets see )

I have the same problem. In the grid view, I have to go photo by photo updating with Ctrl + Alt + U. If I select a group of photo, the update olnly takes one photo

Also Masking does the same thing.  if you do a background mask on one photo, then make one on another photo, your get an error on the first mask and when you update it, the mask errors on all the other photos.  it is a never ending cascade of failures when you add anthing AI to a photo.

AND now every photo for every client i have done in the past, all my masks are broken on every photo I have ever used Lightroom one.

YOU LITERALLY HAVE COST ME THOUSANDS OF DOLLARS IF NOT TENS OF THOUSANDS OF DOLLARS IN LOST TIME.

Can you please provide specific instructions on how to upgrade your catalog if you already upgraded it? Specifically the steps for how to get to the old lightroom folder, what does retrieving the previous catalog means, and then what to do after that?

Will retrieving the previous catalog still preserve the current edits I have done since I updated?

This workaround is confusing.  "If you've already upgraded your catalog, you may need to go to the "Old Lightroom Catalog" folder, retrieve your previous catalog , and perform the update using the above instructions."  The workaround instructions start with "Upgrade catalog".

What???

I read this as if you've already upgraded your catalog, go back and upgrade your catalog again.  How does this fix the problem?

I'm not moving to 14 until this gets addressed more clearly because I depend heaving on AI removal.

I remove the imperfections from the first photo, then synchronize the other images because the dust spots are always in the same place. After working on the other images, if I go back to the first one, I lose the applied effect and have to click the "update all" button to restore it.Immagine.png

Hi, this shouldn't be happening. I tried to synchronize the remove edits on other images but couldn't find any issues. Could you please share a screen recording of your workflow?

Do we need to restore the 13.x catalog and re-upgrade, or just install the update and run with it?

@C.Cella  As credits are currently metered-only and not enforced, it should not be an issue.

One of our editors upgraded from 13 to 14 and is struggling with the mask/removal bug. All AI Gen removal edits need regenerated...

My question is, will upgrading to 14.0.1 fix it using the upgraded v14 catalog, or do I need to first restore the v13 catalog and then upgrade to 14.0.1?

Sorry if this is discussed, but the post from Rikk is a bit confusing.

I just updated Lightroom for the first time today to version 14, so I received the 14.0.1 release. Nonetheless, I'm still seeing a masking red dot on images that have masks. However, going through the individual masks doesn't show any masks that need an update. So maybe this issue isn't completely fixed yet? Or possibly I'm missing something?

Honestly, this whole "updating masks" thing doesn't make a lot of sense to me anyway. If Lightroom knows a mask needs updated, why doesn't it just update it then?

Quick update: I'm seeing the update mask prompt now. It appears that Lightroom wants to update all the generative masks (subject, object, and so on) in an image. As far as I can tell, the mask adjustments seem to be intact.
