A7RII - Adobe lightroom 5

Hello,

I recently purchased a Sony A7rii and unfortunately it's raw file format is not supported by Adobe Lightroom 5. Before completely upgrading, I heard there was a way to convert to DNG that would allow me to use Lightroom 5. I was wondering if anyone is aware of a plug-in that is a better alternative or if someone could explain to me how to go through the DNG process using a MAC?

Does DNG format defeat the purpose of the A7RII photos? Does Adobe Lightroom 6 fully support the RAW photos? If I am to upgrade, I am debating whether to do CC or one time purchase since it is more of a hobby.

Thank you very much,

Chris

You need Lightroom 6.1.1 or later if you want to upgrade.

The DNGs are exactly the same image, not a pixel changes.

You can downloadd the FREE Adobe DNG Converter and convert your RAW to DNG and import them into your Lightroom 5.

Hi all,

I also have just purchased the Sony A7Rii (I use Lightroom 5) and did as advised, downloaded the DNG converter. I am able to import the converted DNG files in LR, but now there are no Camera Calibration options, only Adobe Standard, which looks flat. Any advice hugely appreciated,

Thanks!

That is because LR 5 doesn't natively support that camera so it doesn't have any CC settings.

Not sure even LR C CC V7 has any.

Make your own or upgrade.

Thanks! Decided to upgrade to Lightroom 6 (and then update to the latest version), now working well importing the ARW files and also offers me several camera calibration settings for Sony. Yay Thanks also JimHess for your reply.

Yes you can use the free Adobe DNG converter program to convert the native RAW files to DNG so can be imported into LR 5.
