Question

Adding photos to catalog that are supposedly already added.

I somehow had corrupted my catalog so I was able to use an older one. Fortunately I have the thumbnails and the keywords. So if I were to pull up a keyword, it will pull up the thumbnail, but if I go in to Devolop it, it says "File no found". If I go to the Import dialog and choose "Add" only and find the photos on my external harddrive, they are all dimmed out, and I can't add them to the catalog so I can develop them.  How do I "Add" them to the current catalog, but I don't want to move them or do anything else.

Thanks.

In Lightroom Classic, find the folder that LrC thinks the photo is stored in. It's in the Metadata Panel of the Library Module.

Then in your operating system, copy the photo to that folder.

IMPORTANT RULE: Do not re-import photos, this never solves the problem, it makes it worse.

Well no that won't work.  The files are already where they should be as I used LR to import them to the appropriate subdirectory.  I'm just trying to get the catalog to recognize that those photos are already there and now just add them to the catalog.  Does that help?

It says "File not Found", so the photos are NOT in the folder LrC expects them to be in. There's a reason LrC says this, and you need to find out why it is saying this. Perhaps LrC thinks the photos are in a different folder than you think they are in. Which is why I said you need to find what folder LrC thinks the photos are in (as stated in the Metadata panel) and then look with your own eyes in that exact folder to see if the photo is in there.
