Question

AI denoise does not generate new DNG

Hello everyone. I stumbled upon a problem with Ai denoise thing. You see, it was working all right past months, and even last week, but today it decided to not generate new DNG (Ai denoised) pic. I click on "denoise" as always, choose reasonable amount of denoising, click "enhance", it shows that it's processing in top left corner as always, and then nothing. No denoised picture. Anywhere. Doesn't show any errors either, just generates it for ~30 seconds, and that's it. I'm stuck with undenoised pic. Any tips? Thank you!

I seem to have a similar issue, in that applying denoise in Lr no longer produces a new .DNG file (as of 2 days ago).  Unlike Alex's description, the NEF file does seem to have denoise applied, but no .DNG can be located.  No errors show up.   I use a Nikon Z9, and import direct from the CFexpress cards.

Your issue is unrelated to this thread @Paul Hilton

DNGs are no longer created using Denoise - AI Denoise is like any other edit now and no longer requires derivative DNGs.

I have same (using camera raw edit in Bridge)

yes no preview but the pics are definitely denoised. No idea if same algorithm as before however.
Not having the extra DNG file has got to be improvement as always tricky to know when to switch editing from RAW to DNG otherwise, not to mention disk space.
Looking in File explorer confirms no other files created so nothing to do with sorting or filtering.

This thread is about Denoise in Lightroom Classic, which still creates a new DNG. Filtering can hide that DNG and make people think it wasn't created. Camera Raw / Bridge uses a new method where no new DNG is created, but for this thread that is irrelevant.

I am having the same issue. When I right click on the original photos and click "find in finder" I can see the original photo in it's original location and the denoised .dng file is right next to it as it should be. But the denoised photo is not in lightroom. If I try to add the denoised .dng to lightroom it hangs up and does not add the photo to the library.

My photos are stored on a NAS, I have a feeling this might be the issue? Lightroom has never played well with network storage.

If I drag the denoised .dng photo to my desktop then try to import it into lightroom, lightroom tells me that it's already in the catalogue.

Hello! Have been sitting here for a few hours trying to figure this out after experiencing exactly the same issue as you. My first photo in the collection, denoise worked perfectly, every other image nothing happened!

Well here's what went wrong... In the library tab, I had selected the 'Collection Set' as opposed to the specific 'Collection' where the images were stored in Lightroom. Such a simple solution!

I'm assuming you've figured it out, but this is for anyone new looking for answers.

I have the same problem with Canon R6 and R7 RAW files. Lightroom Classic creates the DNG files just fine. Lighroom does not.

Lightroom Classic and Lightroom are two different applications. If the DNG file is being created by Classic, then your issue is with Lightroom Desktop. You would be best to raise your issue on the Lightroom Ecosystem forum

Thanks for the suggestion, even if it makes it sound like I was somehow unaware LR and LR Classic were two different applications.

Same issue here as for the OP.

Denoising is running, then stops without a result.

1. I have no active filters on.

2. Images are not stacked.

3. Denoised files can't be found either in Lightroom or in original file location.

4. Tried with Lumix and Canon RAW photos, same result.

5. No error message.

Any suggestions?

I found the root cause of my similar issue to be the location of the original files. I was pulling from a Dropbox folder and it appears Lr doesn't love that scenario. In your case, it may not be different, but after moving the files, the issue was eliminated. Good luck!

Thanks for your reply, Brian. 🙂

My files are all on my local drive, so that's not it. I'll keep digging then and get back here when (if) I find a solution.

I'm having the same issue.  Lr created the denoised DNG but throws an error and doesn't add it into Lr.  When I check the folder location, the file it there.  I just noticed this after updated to 13.4.1.

The OP wrote: "Doesn't show any errors either, just generates it for ~30 seconds, and that's it."

Since you've received an error message and have found the Enhanced DNG file, then it's unlikely that the reason for your issue is the same as the OP. Therefore, I recommend you start a new thread, post the error message, and ensure that you also include your 'System Info', which can be obtained from the LrC Help > System Info menu item.

Sounds like you may have an active filter that filters out the new DNG, for example a filter on raw files. The denoised DNG is not a raw file (it's linear RGB) so a filter on raw files will exclude it.

Check that the 'Enhanced DNG' hasn't been 'Stacked' or that the 'Sort Order' hasn't been changed from 'Capture Time'.

If above doesn't locate the file, then right-mouse click on the original file to expose the context menu shown in below attachment. Choose 'Show in Finder' and check whether the Enhanced DNG is present or not.
