AI-selections masking doesn't fully work

Afternoon all,

Was looking for some help as when i try to use any AI mask besides "Detect Sky" (which works well every time) both Lr and LrC fail to detect the background or people/subjects. At the moment i'm making do using brushes/radial/linear etc masks but having the option to select objects would really speed up my workflow.

Any recommendations would be much appreciated.

Cheers,

Hi @dami_kamson, Thanks for reaching out and welcome to the Lightroom Classic Community Forums! Sometimes the AI masks can produce different results, depending on the image, so let's try a few things first to see if it helps with your AI masking:

1. Update GPU Drivers: Lightroom Classic relies on GPU acceleration for AI masking. Make sure your graphics drivers are up to date from the manufacturer's website (NVIDIA, AMD, or Intel).

2. Enable GPU Acceleration: Go to Edit > Preferences > Performance and ensure "Use Graphics Processor" is enabled. Try switching between Auto, Custom, and Off to test if masking behavior changes.

3. Update Lightroom Classic: Ensure you're running the latest version of Lightroom Classic via the Creative Cloud app. Updates often include AI masking improvements and bug fixes.

4. Reset Lightroom Preferences: Please take a look at this Helpx article for steps. https://adobe.ly/3HsQXpA It is recommended that you back up your catalog before resetting preferences. You can take a look at this article for more information:  https://adobe.ly/4dW8vqF. Corrupted preferences can interfere with AI features.

5. Test with Different Images: Some images may not trigger AI detection due to low contrast or unusual lighting. Try AI masks on a variety of photos to rule this out.

If none of these steps resolve the issue, let us know, and we can proceed to the next steps. Let us know how it goes! ^CH

Hi Claire,

Many thanks for the assistance! Updating the GPU driver seems to have worked as I can detect subjects and backgrounds now - hopefully the other functions are similarly repaired.

Thanks again
