All edits lost after computer was turned off

My computer was accidentally turned off at the power point yesterday, and when I turned it back on and opened Lightroom, the catalogue had reverted back to the last time it was saved (when I upgraded to v12). I do have a backup from 3 days ago, but I had done quite a bit of editing since then and cant seem to recover these. Any ideas on if/where I might be able to find these?

Also, any way to prevent this from happening in future, or do I just need to remember to back up every day?

When the computer powered off with Lightroom Classic open with your most recent Catalog the temporary Lock file, that Lightroom creates when it opens a Catalog file, remains in place.
That Lock file will prevent LrC from accessing the Catalog.

With LrC closed go to the folder where your Catalogs are located by default it will be located in your Users > (your user name) > Pictures > Lightroom. Within that Lightroom sub folder should contain your Catalogs, Previews and other support data files. The Catalog files have an extension .lrcat (LRCAT), if there is a file with the same name alongside the Catalog ending with .lrcat.lock (LOCK) delete the lock making sure you do not interfere with any other files.

Then double click on the Catalog and LrC should boot and open the Catalog.

Are you sure that you are opening the correct catalog?

Use MACOS Finder to search for catalogs, these would be files ending with .lrc
As your computer crashed, as LrC did not get to properly close, that catalog should be accompanied with a lock file that did not get deleted, and the correct catalog will not open until  it is deleted..

Incidentally

reverted back to the last time it was saved (when I upgraded to v12)."

LrC catalogs do not get saved, their is no save button, the catalog is a database that gets updated with each action you take. And when you upgraded to v12, the old v11 catalog got upgrades, in affect a save,  but in reality a conversion. It has been quite awhile since most of us upgraded from v11 to v12, so, came I assume that that first v12 catalog is an old one?You might have had some reason or event to copy it and move on to a different copy ogf it.
