Any tips or suggestions from people with experience in making panoramas in LR

So I thinking of switching from PS to LR for making my panoramas, mostly due to the fact that LR is non-destructive to photos.

 

For those who have been doing their panos in LR for some time, do you apply any settings to your individual photos before merging into a pano (eg. sharpening) or is merging into a pano the 1st step in your workflow?  cheers

It doesn't matter. When you merge the panorama, it uses the unedited original data and applies the settings of the topmost selected image as develop settings to the merged panorama. So the result is exactly the same for the orginal file behind the panorama image regardless if you made settings changes to the orginal files. The only thing that changes is the develop settings that it starts out with which of course does not affect the underlying data.

    IIRC there is one exception to this. If you removed spots with the spot healing tool, then Lightroom takes the spot healing from the first image and applies these to all the images before merging. That means these are 'baked in' the final panorama image and that could be a reason not to do this, because it means you cannot change it if the result is not as good as you want.

    Didn't realize this and yeah if it does that it could lead to nasty artefacts in the final image indeed!
