Applying rating using keyboard does not work. Ratings are only applied when mouse

When trying to apply ratings to photos, if I use the keyboard, it says the rating has been applied but the rating does not show up below the picture. If I use the the mouse, left click->apply rating, then the rating is applied.

as expected and the shows up below the photo.

First, restart your computer. If the problem persists, try resetting LR's preferences:

LR sometimes soils its preferences file, and resetting it can fix all sorts of wonky behavior. That article explains how to restore the old preferences if resetting doesn't help.

It still isn't working for me. I restarted and reset Lightroom preferences, but the issue persists. When I manually set a rating by clicking a star, the thumbnail doesn't reflect the change, and all the other photos display the same rating—it's a complete mess. Lightroom has always been a reliable system, but this problem makes it unusable for me since I need to quickly go through pictures and rate them using the keyboard as I go.

@viva_la_zoom: "When I manually set a rating by clicking a star, the thumbnail doesn't reflect the change, and all the other photos display the same rating"

Next steps:

1. Do you have more than one photo selected? Triple check by doing the menu command Edit > Select None. With the subtly different shades of grey LR uses around thumbnails, it can be hard to tell.

2. If that doesn't help, the most effective way to see precisely what you're doing and what's going wrong is to attach a short, full-resolution screen recording (not a phone video) of the entire LR window as it misbehaves:
