Asus vivobook with 8GB ram for LR?

Hi,

I am now looking for a small PC to travel with and to have access to LR.

The plan is to use this light computer to do the back up of my images when I am on the field (nature photography). So I will mostly work on hard disk using USB 3 (for now, maybe USB-C in the future).

Do you think that the asus vivobook with the following specifications would fit for LR ? Is 8 GB enough? I work with raw pictures that are sometimes heavy (42 Mpix).

I have at home a desktop computer where I have all my pictures and videos editing tools. But this small PC would be only to view / have a quick edit and sort the pics.

    I have a Dell Latitude that I bought back in 2011 that originally came with a i5 CPU and I have since upgraded it to an i7 of the same vintage as it was new. It has only 8 GB of RAM. LR runs fine on it.

    About the only difference is the notebook you are looking at has Win 10 and my Dell has Win 7.

    Yes, and I could always add 8 Gb of RAM if needed...

    Do you work with raw and big files? I have 42 Mpx files so they are a bit heavy...

    If you plan on doing field editing in the Develop module Smart Previews will greatly increase the performance of any system. The only down side is that they shouldn't be used for making "visual" adjustments of the controls in the Detail panel. If you have your Detail panel default settings adjusted to what you normally use or have Develop presets for specific shots (high ISO, long exposure) then it's not an issue.

    You have a very slow CPU by today's standards, and 42MP images — this is not something that I would recommend. I think it will be very slow.

    I'd say it would fly for the job! Some iPad's successfully using Lightroom mobile (or are you going to using LR CC Desktop and there same desktop catalog?) would have nothing like this spec.
