Auto Sync Not Working in 6 or Classic CC

I was trying to use Auto Sync as I recently discovered it.  I was working in Lightroom 6 and I can't get it to work.  Thought maybe I needed to move to Lightroom Classic CC.  Started a trial of Classic CC and it still wont work on that with a fresh install and new catalog.

I cant seem to find the answer.  Will Auto Sync work with jpeg's or just with RAW.  I shoot a lot of high school sports,  Jpeg's are all we need and typically have a quick turnaround. (I transfer all my images from the CF card to my hard drive before I import anything into Lightroom.  I crop and rate the images in Photo Mechanic before importing. I saw someone doing the same and it worked for him but didn't ask if he was using jpeg or RAW). Just wanted to see if the feature wasn't working for me, or that it needs RAW files, before I go through all the troubleshooting.

    This just begs to ask, how are you using it?

    Ok, Auto Sync. First you select multiple images, then you select one as the most selected (assuming you do not want to use the first one as most selected), then you edit the image.

    What you do not do, is edit one image, then select multiple images, then click on Auto Sync.

    I do the later.  Highlight a group of images.  I use the first as the primary image.  Put in Auto Sync mode. When I move the sliders, only the primary image changes, none of the others in the group selected.  (I was watching someone edit on their laptop.  They had a set of images they had done some editing on.  He wanted to slightly reduce the yellow on all.  He highlighted all, slightly adjusted the yellow down in the first image and it applied to all).

    NOTE:  I pulled in 4 untouched images.  Tried the process as you said.  Only the first image changes.
