Question

Background and subject masks not working in LRc but do in Camera Raw

Only with the most recent update to LRc (v 12.5) have I started to experience problems with subject and background masks in LRc, the software attempts to identify what needs to be masked but fails and generates the following message, "Something went wrong. There was an unexpected error and your request could not be completed". There is no problem in the software identifying an individual and masking all the various options (face skin, body skin, eyes, hair, etc) but it just won't work with 'subject' or 'background' requests. My AMD (Ryzen 7 1700) and NVIDIA (GeForce GTX 1060) drivers are up-to-date, as is my Windows 10 OS (build 19045.3393). If I export an image to PS and use the Camera Raw filter I do not get any problem with the software identifying the subject and background areas for masking.

Are your original camera files in proprietary raw or JPG format?

Just one point- the Camera Raw Filter in Photoshop is working with rendered RGB pixels in the Ps document. ie. not the same file that is problematic for LrC.

Can you test by using Windows File Explorer to [Open] a raw image file in Photoshop that will go through the ACR plugin (not the Filter). Check if the same "Something went wrong..." problem occurs in ACR.

Regards. My System: Windows-11, Lightroom-Classic 15.1.1, Photoshop 27.3.1, ACR 18.1.1, Lightroom 9.0, Lr-iOS 10.4.0, Bridge 16.0.2 .

Please do the LR menu command Help > System Info and copy/paste the entire contents here so we can see exactly which versions of hardware and software LR thinks you're running and important LR options that are set.
